Good Friday Football Accumulator Tips
Barnsley v Scunthorpe – Barnsley to win
We begin this week’s accumulator bet in League One. Just over three months ago Barnsley lost to Wigan and found themselves bottom of the table. They looked in real danger of being relegated to the fourth tier of English football for the first time since 1979. The Tyke's managed to find some form over Christmas and set themselves on a fine run that has seen them lose just twice in fifteen matches. They now sit in the play-offs and look like a team full of confidence. Their opponents Scunthorpe have hovered around the lower half of mid-table for most of the season but have found some form in recent weeks. They are currently six games unbeaten but that run does include five draws. New manager Graham Alexander will be hoping for twenty goal hitman Paddy Madden can continue his good form this weekend but I think that The Iron will find it tough against the in form Tykes.
Bristol Rovers v Cambridge – Bristol Rovers to win
This time last season Rovers were successfully fighting things out at the top of the National League. After achieving promotion, they have kept that momentum going and they have given themselves a real chance of playing League One football next term. They currently find themselves in third position thanks to five victories in a row and The Pirate's faithful will be hoping for another three points on Friday against play-off chasing Cambridge. Many expected The U's to be involved in the promotion race this term but they are another side who have struggled for any consistancy. They have claimed just a single point from their last three away matches and find themselves five points behind the top seven. This is a match that they need to gain something from but with the form that Rovers are in I fully expect the home side to take the points.
Exeter v Barnet – Exeter to win
These two clubs currently sit in 14th and 15th position in League Two. They both look safe from relegation and realistically will find it difficult to reach the play-offs so this match is all about pride and league position. Barnet found it tough at the start of the campaign after being promoted as National League Champions. Their home form kept The Bee's clear of the relegation zone which was a good thing as their away form is the second worst in the league. Exeter are currently on a run of just one defeat in seven. Paul Tisdale's side are a match for anyone in this division on their day. They have some real experience in their squad and showed the class they had last weekend by winning 4-1 away at Notts County. This could be a close game but Barnet's record of just three away wins all season makes me believe that the three points will be staying at St James Park.
Yeovil v Carlisle – Yeovil to win
Yeovil have had a shocking two and a half seasons since they were promoted to the Championship back in 2013. It was no shame for a club of their size to be relegated from that level after a brave fight but it left a huge hangover for the Somerset club. They were then relegated again from League One the next season and for much of this campaign it looked like they would be playing non-league football next term. However, they have found some form at just the right time and had won four in a row until last weekend’s defeat. They are now 11 points clear of the drop zone and look like a club on the up. Carlisle are a team who have had their eyes on the play-offs all season but have hit some poor form at just the wrong time. They have failed to win in five and have dropped six points of off the top six and also have a worse defensive record than their hosts. The form guide points to a win for The Glover's
Forest Green v Aldershot – Forest Green to win
We finish this week’s football accumulator tip in the National League. The fight for the one automatic promotion spot has been a two horse race for some time now. Cheltenham have been top for a long while but Forest Green Rovers have gradually closed the gap and are now just a single point behind in second place. That is thanks to a run of ten wins in fourteen matches which has seen them lose just once. Rovers have been towards the top of the National League table for several seasons now and this could be the season that finally sees them achieve status as a league club. Aldershot were relegated from the football league just three years ago but have struggled on and off the field since then. They are only nine points above the relegation zone and have only won once in seven matches. If Forest Green want to achieve promotion, then this is three points that they need to win.
