The phrase ‘hero to zero’ doesn’t even begin to sum up Dimitri Payet’s current plight at West Ham United. Despite achieving a landmark season with the Hammers down at Upton Park last term, the highly coveted French international has since decided he no longer wishes to ply his trade in front of the very same fans who once crowed him king.
West Ham have hardly been all that impressive for the most part this campaign – but as Payet hasn’t exactly been in scintillating form himself since emerging from the French national squad at Euro 2016 this summer – his reported desire to depart his current employers has certainly hit the Hammers fan-base hard.
According to some within the English footballing community, Payet has acted totally out of line…
Souness on Payet "He's dodgy. Picking & choosing when he wants to play at a fabulous club like West Ham – he's wrong on every level." pic.twitter.com/K38XB4yY3J

…but whilst some Hammers fans may be tempted to sell their former talisman this window…
I've said it all along as much as I love Payet if he does not want to play for us then get rid of him especially if he is refusing to play ⚒

…others wish to see him rot for his latest declaration…
Payet signed a £120.000 per week contract last Feb now says he doesn't want to play for hammers again leave him to rot in reserves till 2021

West Ham are reportedly keen on keeping hold of the widely admired French international however…
West Ham want Dimitri Payet to apologise to fans and play for them again. He's been to told to report for training with Under 23s tomorrow

…yet in the eyes of the collective Hammers faithful, Payet is seemingly as good as dead…

…and as Slaven Bilic’s boys performed just fine without the no. 27 last time out against Crystal Palace…
Who needs Payet?! Big man Andy with the wonder goal!!! #COYI ⚒⚒⚒

…perhaps there is indeed life after Payet for West Ham United. There is no ‘I’ in team after all…
Will you remember Payet as a legend or a snake?
