Liverpool v Leicester – Leicester to win
We start this weekend’s accumulator tip with Premier League leaders Leicester City. The Foxes have been a revelation this season and are not at the Premier League summit by accident. Claudio Ranieri has a team in great form built around his two talismen Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy. They have 28 goals between them this term which is more than 15 teams in the Premier League. The Foxes have lost just once all season and have not lost away from home since March. Leicester come up against a Liverpool side who are struggling this campaign. They have taken just a single point from their last three matches and after a bright start I think manager Jurgen Klopp is seeing what a huge job he has on his hands. To me Leicester are far too overpriced and should take the three points to finally achieve Ranieri's objective of 40 points and Premier League safety.
Peterborough v Chesterfield – Peterborough to win
After a couple of disappointing results Peterborough will be hoping to get back to winning ways against struggling Chesterfield. Since Graham Westley took charge of Posh back in September they have charged up the table to sit in a play-off position. They are the highest scorers in the league and average more than two goals a game. After last season’s achievements of reaching the end of season play-offs Chesterfield’s campaign this time around has taken a turn for the worse. Poor form and sliding down the table cost Dean Saunders his job and they have just brought experienced manager Danny Wilson in to steady the ship. He looks to have a very difficult job as The Spireites have lost six on the bounce and have not found the net in four. All this points to a home victory and Peterborough consolidating they place in the top six and Chesterfield moving closer to relegation.
Colchester v Southend – Southend to win
We continue this football accumulator tip for Boxing Day with an Essex derby. With the way things have gone so far this season these two clubs have very different objectives for the remainder of the campaign. After promotion from League Two back in May Southend took time to adjust to life in League One. However, manager Phil Brown has built a strong squad and after a run of no defeats in seven games they find themselves just outside the play-offs. Colchester are on a bad run of seven straight defeats that have seen them fall down the table to now sit at the very bottom. They have just brought in rookie manager Kevin Keen to try and turn things around but he has a very difficult job on his hands. His first job will be to improve a defence that has conceded 55 times already this term but any improvement may have to wait until next week as I fully expect Southend to take the points.
Plymouth v Yeovil – Plymouth to win
We carry on our Boxing Day accumulator coupon bet in League Two. Plymouth have wobbled a little bit in recent weeks but still find themselves at the top of the table. After a great start to the season Argyle went four matches without recording a win and were looking vulnerable to the chasing pack. They managed to get back to winning ways last week and came home from the long trip to Hartlepool with all three points. They will be hoping to build on that victory this week against struggling Yeovil. The Glovers are having another terrible season. After consecutive relegations from the Championship and League One Yeovil once again find themselves in a relegation place and are in great danger of dropping out of the football league. They haven't won in 15 matches and look very low on confidence. A Plymouth victory looks like being the safest bet.
Leyton Orient v Portsmouth – Portsmouth to win
We finish this week’s accumulator tip with a heavy weight battle from League Two. Both of these clubs were expecting to be in the promotion mix this season and both still have a chance to achieve their ambitions. However, after a fast start to the season Orient have fell away in recent weeks. Just two wins in 11 matches have seen them drop from a top three position to tenth in the league. Their form will need to improve if they want to drag themselves back into the play-off picture but that may have to wait until the new year as they face the leagues in form club on Saturday. This is Pompey's third season at this level and they finally look like being strong enough to achieve promotion. The 2008 FA Cup winners have lost just one in twelve matches and another three points here could see them climb into the top three and more importantly bring home our winning accumulator and give us all a Merry Christmas.
