Man City v Sunderland Predictions
Man City have been inconsistent of late. They were beaten on Monday night at Arsenal but in many ways their performance was much better than the week before when a last gasp goal got them all three points again Swansea. The Blues’ defence has come under scrutiny in recent weeks since Vincent Kompany has been out through injury, so his return can’t come quickly enough. The captain should be fit for this one along with Pablo Zabaleta and Fernando. Many have been slating City recently, but there’s very few teams who could manage without the likes of Kompany, Silva and Aguero. For this one Man City have, aside from the long term injury to Samir Nasri, a fully fit squad to choose from for the first time in months.
As for Sunderland, they’re missing Younes Kaboul and Sebastian Larsson for their squad against Man City through injury and Lee Cattermole is likely to miss out. Fellow midfielder Jack Rodwell misses out on a return to his former club through suspension.
The key man for me in this one is Sergio Aguero. He made his return from his latest injury in the Arsenal defeat and I think he’ll start this one too as he looks to get match fit. Even a half fit Kun is a danger to anyone and he’s the subject of my first bet.
My first Man City v Sunderland prediction is for a first goalscorer bet and I’m backing Sergio Aguero. The best odds for Aguero to score first are 11/4 with Coral.
This fixture always provides goals. There’s been 23 in the last five meetings between the two, including a 4-1 City win in the League Cup earlier this season. I’m expecting goals in this one too so for my second Premier League prediction I’m having a bet on the overs.

Despite Kompany’s probable return I still think Sunderland will get on the scoresheet. It’s not just the lack of organisation in their back line that has caused City problems, it’s the lack of protection from the midfield that have allowed teams to put them under pressure. Pellegrini’s men haven’t kept a clean sheet since the 0-0 at Villa in early November and I doubt they will in this one. Go for both teams to score with Boylesports at 23/20.
