Derby Championship play-off

Derby vs Sheffield Wednesday Betting Tips and Predictions

Derby vs Sheffield Wednesday betting tips and Championship predictions for this weekend’s live TV match with the best bets and match preview.

Many sides will be facing each other for the final time this season, but there’s a possibility Derby and Sheffield Wednesday could meet again in the Play-Offs. We’ve got the best bets for the match.

Derby v Sheffield Wednesday Preview

Derby County

Derby have hit form once again. If there were any fears about them dropping out of the play-offs for the second successive season, they have been allayed. They’ve now won four consecutive matches and five of their last six including a victory here against local rivals Nottingham Forest. They’ve hit twelve goals in their last four matches and will be dangerous opposition in the end of the season shake up.

There may still be a couple of issues at the back as they conceded twice to Bristol City. But in the East Midlands, they’ve only conceded just a single goal in their last four. They are extremely dangerous going forward and with Tom Ince, Johnny Russell and Chris Martin all scoring recently, they will keep the Sheffield Wednesday defence busy on Saturday lunchtime. They have 36 goals between them and Darren Wassall has the luxury of rotating his front three with Nick Blackman, Darren Bent and Andreas Weimann all waiting in the wings.

Derby seem to be playing with a lot of freedom and it’s enjoyable to watch for those Derby fans who have been through several different emotions during the course of a rollercoaster season. How much of an influence Harry Redknapp has had behind the scenes is unknown, but the Rams have definitely improved in the last few weeks and after securing their play-off place, they can enjoy their remaining few games this season.

Sheffield Wednesday

The Owls have just hit the skids at the wrong time of the season and are nervously looking over their shoulders. Luckily for Sheffield Wednesday, Cardiff haven’t been picking up results and catching the South Yorkshire side still looks unlikely. It would be a significant turnaround in results for Ricardo Carvalhal’s side to miss out on the top six, but they need the points to confirm their position.

They could only draw 0-0 with MK Dons in midweek and many would have backed them to win that game. They weren’t without their chances though as they hit the woodwork a number of times and the Dons were lucky to come away with a point. Worryingly for Wednesday, they were battered in their last away game by Bristol City (4-1), a side whom Derby put three past in midweek.

It makes it three games without a win and even though they have won four of their last eight games, all of those victories have been against sides positioned 16th or below. They are still the 5th highest scorers in the league and with Derby’s recent goalscoring exploits, they now have 125 goals between them this season.

Derby v Sheff Wed Team News

Jamie Hanson could be back for this match as his Achilles problem has cleared up quicker than expected. He missed out against Bristol City, but is likely to return for this one. Tom Ince was named in the Football League Team of Midweek and looks likely to continue alongside Johnny Russell.

Jeremy Helan has been recalled from Wolves and could get a start here as the Owls get to grips with injuries and suspensions. Joe Bennett has a knee injury and Helan could be the man to step in at left back. Ross Wallace was sent off against MK Dons as will sit this match out.

Derby v Sheffield Wednesday Betting Predictions

Derby are in decent nick and I think they can continue to play with freedom. The owls are feeling the pressure and the injuries and suspensions are starting to hit. They were unlucky against MK Dons, but with just a single goal conceded in four home matches, It’s got to be Derby. My first Derby vs Sheffield Wednesday betting tip is Derby to win.

DERBY TO WIN – 11/10 with Betfred.
