Charlton vs Brighton Betting Tips and Predictions – Championship

Championship predictions for Charlton vs Brighton and the best three football betting tips on this weekend’s match.

Brighton have been mightily impressive over the last couple of weeks and they make the short-ish trip to South London to face already relegated Charlton. We’ve got the best bets for the 3pm kick-off on Saturday afternoon.

Charlton vs Brighton Preview

Charlton

The Inevitable happened on Tuesday night as Charlton’s stay in the Championship ended. A low-key 0-0 draw at already relegated Bolton Wanderers confirmed that the Addicks will be joining the Trotters in the third tier next season. Jose Riga wasn’t able to save the club, which has faced a season of disappointment and instability off the field.

There have been some bright spots in Riga’s tenure. Home wins over Birmingham and Middlesbrough gave the fans some hope that they can remain in the Championship, but it was too little, too late. Callum Harriott, Jordan Cousins and Ademola Lookman give a hopeful nod to the future, but there is a real mish-mash of players at the club signing by different managers for different purposes and it’s going to be a summer of upheaval. Protests will be planned by the Charlton fans for this game and that may distract from the action on the field.

Riga will consider his future once the season is over, the dapper Belgian boss never stays anywhere for long and may be looking for pastures new over the summer. Captain Johnny Jackson says the players have to make it up to the fans next season, but many of them will not be around. This is a tough task for Charlton, who have struggled of late. They’ve netted just a single in four matches and Brighton have hit nine without reply in their last two Championship matches.

Brighton

The chase is on for the coveted automatic promotion places. Brighton are laying the gauntlet down to Middlesbrough and Burnley above them with scintillating performances. They are now 11 unbeaten and are looking very difficult to break down. Anthony Knockaert was superb on Tuesday night as they hit QPR for four at the AMEX. The Leicester loanee has been brilliant since he joined the South Coast club and is an integral part of their promotion push.

Chris Hughton has put together a superb squad and they have surprised many across the course of the season. They had a dip around Christmas, but they have bounced back in style and with their final match at Middlesbrough – all eyes could be on the Riverside on the 7th of May. Lewis Dunk and Connor Goldson have been superb at the back of late and they’ve only conceded five goals in the last eight games. Two of those were against promotion rivals Burnley. They’ve won their last three away games 2-1 including a last minute Steve Sidwell goal against Nottingham Forest side. The Tricky Trees gave them a tough game that night, but this might be a little easier.

Charlton vs Brighton Team News

With Charlton relegated and the manager’s future up in the air, the team line-up could be anything. Chris Solly and Morgan Fox missed out in midweek though and could be given a game in the back four as they try and stop a rampant Brighton side. The highly productive Callum Harriott was dropped for Tuesday night’s game, but the youngster is likely to return for this one. Johan Berg Gudmondsson is unlikely to be in the Charlton starting eleven.

For Brighton, Chris Hughton has favoured unchanged teams, but James Wilson has picked up an injury and is unlikely to be fit for this one. They have a ready-made replacement in the shape of Sam Baldock though. The former MK Dons frontman has been decent when teaming up with Tomer Hemed. Barring any late fitness worries, Hughton is likely to field largely the same team that thrashed QPR.

Charlton vs Brighton Predictions

Once again, Brighton are a little short to back as an outright winner for our main football tip this weekend. With Charlton relegated and struggled to muster chances against Bolton, Brighton could take advantage. They have been in front both at half time and full time against far stronger teams recently. My first Charlton v Brighton prediction is for Brighton/Brighton on the HT/FT market.

BRIGHTON HT/BRIGHTON FT – 7/5 with 888Sport.

Brighton could get a few here and Charlton aren’t without ability going forward. I think there could be a few goals. My second Charlton v Brighton betting tip is for Over 2.5 goals.

OVER 2.5 GOALS – Evens with bet365.

In his current form, it’s hard to overlook Anthony Knockaert for an anytime goalscorer tip. The Leicester man is capable of screamers as well as popping up in the right places at the right time. My third Charlton v Brighton prediction this weekend is for Anthony Knockaert to score anytime.

KNOCKAERT TO SCORE ANYTIME – 3/1 with bet365.
