Weekend Both Teams to Score Tips

Bournemouth v Chelsea

We’re kicking things off in the Premier League as Bournemouth welcome Chelsea to the Vitality Stadium. This match has all the hallmarks of a dead rubber, with about the only thing left to play for being securing a top table finish. Obviously, for The Cherries, though, this would be an outstanding achievement and I expect Eddie Howe’s men to give Chelsea a real game on Saturday. Bournemouth played out an entertaining 2-1 defeat to Liverpool last Sunday and this was their third BTTS result in the last four home games, as well as being the sixth match in a row to see over 2.5 goals. Whichever way you look at it, it’s been a dreadful season for The Blues and even the scant consolation of having a decent unbeaten run under interim boss Gus Hiddink has now evaporated after the last two games. Nevertheless, Chelsea did churn out six straight BTTS results recently and have not kept a clean sheet for their last nine games so I would be very surprised if we don’t see both teams finding the net in this one.

Liverpool v Newcastle

Our second selection for this weekend football tip is another Premier League affair as in-form Liverpool take on Rafa’s Newcastle at Anfield. Under normal circumstances I would have probably avoided this one, but Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has already said he will be ringing the changes with their crucial Europa League tie against Villarreal on the horizon. The last two times Klopp has done this, we have seen BTTS results against both Stoke and Bournemouth. The Reds have been shooting up the goalscoring charts of late and have now found the net 26 times in their last nine games, Newcastle on the other hand, have the second worst defence in the whole division and have only conceded three less than the hapless Aston Villa. However, The Magpies played well in their 1-1 draw against Manchester City in midweek and are literally fighting for their Premier League survival, so I can see a few goals on the cards in this one. Let’s just hope it’s for both sides!

Fulham v Nottingham Forest

The third selection features an old favourite of mine Fulham and their home tie with Nottingham Forest. The Cottagers chalked up another BTTS result in midweek to take their ratio up to 74% for the season so far. Fulham really are at opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to goals as they have the joint third highest scoring record in the Championship, whilst also having the second worst defence as well. Whilst being fairly counter-productive in terms of them moving up the league, these are superb ingredients for a potential BTTS outcome in most of their matches. This leaves opponents Nottingham Forest needing to do their share of the role, though, and they don’t exactly fill me with a huge amount of confidence these days. Forest are a bit of a shambles at the moment and are right in the middle of a horrid run that has only yielded one win in their last 13 games. However, three of their last four have seen a BTTS result so I can see this one following suit against the league’s BTTS specialists.

Accrington v York

Our anchor leg looks the pick of the bunch this weekend as Accrington take on York City in League Two. For those that have followed over the course of the season, you will probably already be well aware of the hosts absolutely phenomenal BTTS record at the Crown Ground. Of Stanley’s 21 home games this year, 18 have seen a BTTS result and this roughly equates to 86% of their matches. Normally you would be hard pushed to find many teams in Europe to have a better ratio than that, except this weekend’s opponents York City have actually gone one game better following their excellent 3-1 at home to Portsmouth in the week. Although, their BTTS record away from home isn’t quite as impressive, they have seen that outcome fall in their last eight games in a row and will desperately hoping for a stay of execution in regards to their football league status this Saturday. As always, the statistics will only take you so far and you need the teams to do the business on the pitch, but this looks as good as they come in the BTTS market.
