Burnley v Leeds United prediction and betting tips for this weekend’s Championship fixture live on TV at 12.30pm on Saturday 9th April.
Burnley continue their reign at the top of the Championship table as they host Leeds on Saturday lunchtime. We have three football betting tips for the lunch-time kick-off. Their lead has narrowed significantly, but Burnley will hope to establish their dominance at the top of the table against Leeds
Burnley v Leeds Preview
Burnley
Burnley appeared out of sight a few weeks back, but a run of difficult games coupled with Middlesbrough’s resurgence has seen that narrow to just a single point. They are consistent enough to book their place in the Premier League next season as they are now unbeaten in 17 and their last 10 home matches. They have had difficult fixtures against Cardiff, who are chasing the play-off spot and Brighton, who sit in third and are on a decent run themselves. The disappointing result was against Wolves two weeks ago when the Clarets were leading and dominating, but didn’t get second goal and were pegged back late on.
Sean Dyche has been linked with the Aston Villa job which isn’t a surprise considering his achievements over the last few campaigns. The former Watford manager has been superb and is the sort of character who is passionate and demands hard work and team spirit from his players. There are some difficult fixtures remaining for his side, Middlesbrough visit Turf Moor and there are trips to Preston and an ever improving Charlton. His mantra is take each game at a time, but this is surely one in which Burnley fans will be confident they can take all three points.
Leeds United
It’s been a disappointing season for Leeds and the off the field issues continue to make the headlines in West Yorkshire. Massimo Cellino continues to run the club in a bizarre and often irrational manner and although there’s no provable correlation between his madcap antics and on the field performances, it surely can’t help matters.
Steve Evans initially tightened Leeds up and made them hard to beat, but that has fallen by the wayside in recent weeks. They’ve lost two of their last three and have won just four times this calendar year. Evans was on the end of a disappointing defeat dished out by his former club Rotherham at the weekend and he has a big summer ahead of him.
They sit in 15th place and can’t go down. They face some straightforward looking fixtures in Wolverhampton, Reading and Birmingham all of whom have nothing to play for. You never know what you’re going to get with Leeds, but it is likely they’ll struggle to pick up maximum points here.
Team News
Steve Evans has a decision to make at the back ahead of this tie. Guiseppe Belluschi has made costly errors in the past few games and could be dropped in favour of Sol Bamba. Bamba occasionally looks like his legs are not working in tandem with his brain, but there’s no doubt he is a no-nonsense, solid defender and he could partner Liam Cooper if he has recovered from his illness.
Scott Arfield hasn’t quite shaken off the injury he acquired on International Duty and may be given the weekend off. It is unlikely that Sean Dyche will change things around too much. It’s no win in three, but these are the players that elevated Burnley to the top of the table and he is likely to repay that faith.
Burnley v Leeds Predictions
This fixture looks reasonably easy on paper, but it might be tighter than expected. Burnley should have enough though as their performance against Cardiff was decent. They had plenty of energy, but failed to find a way past a tough Cardiff backline. My first Burnley v Leeds prediction is for Burnley to win. They can be backed at 3/5 with Bet Victor.
Leeds usually do find the net, but they fail to keep them out at the other end. With recent defensive lapses, they will probably concede once again. Burnley’s shutout against Cardiff was their first in six and I think both sides can net here. My second Burnley v Leeds prediction is for Both Teams to Score? Yes. It can be backed at 23/20 with William Hill.
It’s very hard to look beyond the top two in the goalscorer market for any anytime goalscorer tip. Andre Gray and Sam Vokes have netted so often this season that they have turned a profit for any regular backers. I’m going with the latter, who is a slightly better price. My third Burnley v Leeds betting tip is for Sam Vokes to score anytime. He can be backed at 6/4 with Stan James.
