Both Teams to Score Tips Boxing Day

Barnsley vs Blackburn Tip – BTTS

Rovers have lost the last three matches by the same scoreline. They’ve been on the wrong end of a trio of 3-2 defeats and defending is still proving a problem for Owen Coyle’s side. Amazingly, it wasn’t long ago, they kept a clean sheet against Newcastle, but they’ve let in 10 goals in the subsequent four games. They’ve not been helped by injuries and suspensions and Jason Lowe misses out in midfield here. They’ve tried several different defensive combinations and it hasn’t worked. They’ve managed just two clean sheets all season and the Tykes hit four last weekend. Barnsley were involved in the weekend’s most entertaining game. They were pegged back to 3-3 by Cardiff, but Ryan Williams tapped in an injury time winner and bag all of the points. There have been 16 goals in their last 5 home matches and 10 in their last 2. They are struggling to keep sides out, but have plenty of firepower in which to counteract it. Sam Winnall is back to his scoring best and is ably assisted by Tom Bradshaw and Adam Armstrong.

Port Vale vs Walsall Tip – BTTS

Port Vale are struggling and another defeat here could spell the end for manager Bruno Ribeiro. Vale are heading the wrong way in the table and are leaking goals. At home, they’ve conceded 8 goals in their last 4 matches and the fans aren’t pleased with what they’re witnessing. BTTS has landed in each of the last 5 at Vale Park and 8 of the last 9. They’ve shipped 7 goals in the last two matches (home and away). Walsall aren’t the league’s highest scorers or the most entertaining side to watch, but this is a local derby of sorts and is always fiercely contested. The Saddlers have netted in 7 of the last 8 away matches and should find a way past a Vale defence which has looked clueless in recent weeks.

Oxford vs Northampton Tip – BTTS

The A43 derby should be a cracking occasion on Boxing Day with both sides offering plenty of threat going forward. Michael Appleton’s side have scored in every home game this season and will look to continue that run here. They have mixed results, but have been strong at the Kassam and netted three against Bury at the weekend. Chris Maguire is always a threat and they will surely fancy their chances of winning this. Northampton have played in fits and starts under Rob Page. They are too good to go down, but need to add a little more consistency. They’ve won twice and lost three of their recent away matches, but have hit 7 goals in those two victories, so are perfectly capable of going for the jugular. They’ve only failed to score three times on the road this season – once against Bradford, who have the second best defence in the league and against Peterborough and Oldham, who have also pretty mean backlines. Oxford have conceded more than both of those sides.

Yeovil vs Exeter Tip – BTTS

Exeter have the second best away form in the division and can boost their record with the short-ish trip to Yeovil. Exeter beat struggling Cheltenham in their last away trip and will be looking to boost their survival hopes with three points here. They’ve hit 13 goals in their last 5 matches on the road and have scored in 6 successive away trips. Paul Tisdale’s side are still young and capable of inconsistencies, but they get forward in numbers. They’ve conceded in four of the last six games with only out-of-form Morecambe and useful home dwellers Leyton Orient failing to find the net. Yeovil failed to net against Barnet, but did hit the woodwork and created plenty of chances. They’d netted 13 times in their previous 4 home matches at Huish Park and will be fancied to get on the scoresheet here. They’ve kept just one clean sheet in five and that came against poor travellers Crawley.
