Anytime Goalscorer Tips Boxing Day
Sam Winnall – Barnsley (v Blackburn)
Since returning from injury, Sam Winnall has been in good goalscoring form. He has always been a terrific finisher and will relish facing a Blackburn defence which has conceded 9 goals in their last 3 matches. The former Scunthorpe man has hit 9 goals in 19 matches this season and five in his last five. He netted twice against Cardiff last weekend and that can only give him the confidence he needs to reach double figures here. Winnall will enjoy being back in front of the Oakwell crowd, who saw him net during the recent 5-2 loss to Nottingham Forest. He’ll be full of confidence after scoring a couple of braces recently and will surely find a way through a generous Rovers defence.
Elias Kachunga – Huddersfield (v Nottingham Forest)
Kachunga netted both goals against Norwich 10 days ago, in front of the TV cameras. Yes, the second may have been a toe poke, but they all count! The German striker on loan from Ingolstadt has netted 9 times this season and has scored three in his last three. He loves a goal in West Yorkshire, 6 of his 9 efforts have arrived at the John Smith’s Stadium and he’ll be looking to continue his recent good form here. Kachunga should find plenty of space amongst a Forest defence which has leaked goals all season and struggles to keep clean sheets.
Liam Mandeville – Doncaster (v Notts County)
The young striker is the third player on our list to have netted 9 goals this season! (I was also looking at David Ball of Fleetwood, who has also fired in 9 this campaign), but Mandeville gets the nod due to his recent form. He fired in the winner after just three minutes against Grimsby last weekend and has hit 7 of his goals since the start of November. 6 in 7 isn’t bad for a striker who has only found first team opportunities this season and is just 19 years of age. Donny have been scoring plenty of goals on the road and hit four against Stevenage recently. The absence of James Coppinger may worry some, but that’s alleviated by the fact they face Notts County, who cannot keep clean sheets. John Sheridan is under enormous pressure and another home loss would not be welcomed here. Mandeville should have a field day.
