Norwich v Cardiff Preview

Norwich City

The Canaries were suffering from injuries when they were humbled by Birmingham before the International Break. It was their first defeat of the season and it left manager Alex Neil seething.

He said they weren’t good enough anywhere on the pitch and he will want to see significant improvement here.

They still have a few on the sidelines, but there are a number of returning players. Alex Pritchard was the biggest loss, but the signing from Spurs should have suitably recovered from a stomach injury to play here. He will add some much needed creativity to the Norwich midfield.

Ivo Pinto and Cameron Jerome could also be back for this one as Neil was able to use the break to recuperate some of his key men.

Back at home, they will feel confident of picking up something here. Neil has said that the next two games could shape the rest of the season and they will want to kick off the next set of fixtures with three points against a side who have struggled on their travels.

The performance against Birmingham was worrying for Norwich fans, but with the likes of Robbie Brady and Wes Hoolahan in the side they will be confident of putting that behind them.

Alex Neil isn’t the sort of manager who will accept defeat and he will be firing his players up behind the scenes to bounce back.

Norwich won 3-2 when the sides met here in January and they’ll be confident of knocking a few past the Bluebirds once more. Nelson Oliveira will be looking to get off on the front foot and be the answer to Norwich’s recent lack of options in the striking department.

Cardiff City

There could be a number of debuts in Cardiff colours this weekend. Rickie Lambert was a deadline day arrival and could be in for a start here. The former Liverpool and Southampton man hasn’t played much football recently though so might be eased into the Championship with a place amongst the subs.

Left back Joe Bennett was the other arrival at the club and he is likely to get the nod.

David Marshall was a notable departure at the end of the month as he headed to Humberside. The keeper has been a safe pair of hands and fans favourite for many years in South Wales and will be much missed.

Ben Amos will battle it out with Brian Murphy and young Ben Wilson for a place between the sticks.

Paul Trollope’s side have struggled for goals this season and they’ll be hoping that Lambert can provide that spark in the final third.

They’ve only hit the back of the net four times this season and only two Cardiff players have got on the scoresheet. Joe Ralls and Anthony Pilkington netted in the recent 2-2 draw at Fulham.

That wasn’t a bad result in West London as Cardiff have been fairly wretched on the road recently. They haven’t take all three points since the 5th of March.

This is a tough ask, Norwich haven’t conceded a goal here in the league so far and with Cardiff’s lack of firepower, the Canaries backline might be able to put the sun loungers out.

All the talk this week has been about controversial owner Vincent Tan. But the fans will be pleased to get back to matters on the pitch and focus on the football rather than the politics behind the scenes.

Norwich v Cardiff Predictions

I think Norwich can grab a couple of goals here. They should get back to winning ways after a poor end to August. They have the talent in the squad to do so and the return of Alex Pritchard will definitely help matters. Cardiff have struggled for goals and I’m not sure they have enough about them to trouble the Canaries so my first Norwich vs Cardiff betting tip is for Norwich to win by two or more goals at odds of 11/8 with bet365.

If Nelson Oliveira starts, I think he could find the target for any anytime goalscorer tip this weekend. The striker has previous experience at this level with Nottingham Forest and netted a few last season, including some important goals. The best odds for Oliveira to score anytime are 7/5 with 888Sport.

I’m going to take a chance on Norwich keeping a clean sheet here to complete my Norwich vs Cardiff predictions. They haven’t shipped in the league here and Cardiff lack the necessary firepower to seriously trouble the Norwich backline. Get on both teams to score? No at odds of Evens with Paddy Power for our final bet on this 3pm kick-off.
