The Kazakhstani conquerors of Aberdeen meet French side Bordeaux. It’s been an unspectacular start to Ligue 1 for Bordeaux, but they shouldn’t let that affect them in Europe. They finished 6th in Ligue 1 last season in manager Willy Sagnol’s first season in charge. It’s hard to judge a team after 2 games, but they don’t look as strong this time around. Almaty could only draw 1-1 in their latest domestic game, the same result as their opponents today and have only won once away from home in their 5 attempts.

 

Steaua Bucharest v Rosenborg – Rosenborg to win

There’s nothing like an away win to try and boost the odds of our Accumulator. Rosenborg are a team in form and therefore they deserve our backing. Another short price, but I think Southampton can win here and take a decent lead back to Denmark. The Saints were poor against Everton at the weekend and they can’t blame the Europa League! The Danes are pretty good on the road, having won their last 4 in all competitions, but the South Coast club should have too much flair going forward for them.

 

Zilina v Athletic Bilbao – Bilbao win

Bilbao have just won the Super Cup, they beat Barcelona over two legs, with the Catalans not being able to get the better of them. Surely that stands them in excellent stead for another great European adventure. The challenge that stands before them comes in the form of the Slovakian outfit Zilina. Yes, the Spaniards are away from home, it’s never easy travelling to Eastern Europe on a Thursday night, but I think they will be able to take a lead back for the 2nd leg.
