Championship predictions and Birmingham v Derby betting tips for the live TV game on Friday 21st August 2015.
At the start of this preview, I was scratching my head, attempting to work out how Birmingham fared in midweek. Then I realised that they weren’t in action. The Blues have had a rest whilst every team around them has laboured to two games in just over 72 hours. Derby fought hard and earned a point against Middlesbrough in midweek but still haven’t managed to secure three points.
Birmingham v Derby Predictions
Paul Clement took over at Derby from the outbound Steve McLaren and many would have expected him to have claimed three points by now. Games in the Championship are never easy, but when fans were salivating on fixture release day, they would have pinpointed both Charlton and Bolton for three points and Middlesbrough for a point perhaps. Three points from three games is not the total they would have been dreaming of. Something hasn’t quite clicked at the I-Pro yet. Despite the abundance of attacking riches, they haven’t hit the ground running. With Will Hughes out injured for a sustained period, they have turned to Jacob Butterfield from Huddersfield, who is their latest transfer target.
With Chris Martin, Darren Bent, Andreas Weimann, Johnny Russell & Tom Ince in their squad, more than two goals would have been expected. I think this may be a high scoring game. Despite, Gary Rowett’s tentative approach at Burton, his Birmingham side have been brilliant going forward this season and following a 2-2 draw with Burnley and a 2-1 victory against Reading, they go into this game with confidence.
Birmingham are a decent price in this game when looking for my football betting tips and although I’ve not seen enough of them to take them outright, I fancy them on the Draw No Bet market. Gary Rowett has had the extra time during the week to do his homework and work out how to counteract Derby’s attack and how to exploit their backline. His players are also rested and they have looked sharp so far this season. Rowett is one of the country’s best young managers and he takes each individual game on its merits and I think he may be hatching a plan for Derby County.
My first Birmingham v Derby prediction is for Birmingham to win (Draw No Bet), this means if it’s a draw you get your money back, the best odds are 21/20 at Betfair.

Before changing my mind, I was considering Arsenal loanee Jon Toral as a first goalscorer tip. The former Brentford loanee is a terrific midfielder and he has a cracking technique. He will score goals and already has two for his new club. It was a fillip for Rowett to obtain the services of the midfield maestro, he is likeliest to score anytime for the home side.
My second Championship prediction for Birmingham v Derby is Jon Toral to score anytime at 15/2 with 888Sport.

Birmingham still haven’t managed to keep a clean sheet and I predict that run will continue. Derby haven’t been breached too often yet, just the two goals shipped, but Brum are lively going forward and I think we could see both sides getting on the scoresheet here.
For my last Birmingham v Derby prediction I’m betting on both teams to score at 4/6 with William Hill.
