Weekend Football Accumulator Picks:
Crystal Palace to win away at Sunderland
We start this week’s accumulator coupon with two clubs who had good results last weekend. Sunderland beat fierce rivals Newcastle and Crystal Palace recorded a victory against champions Manchester City. Sunderland needed that win to keep themselves above the relegation zone but before that victory the Black Cats had been in poor form. They come up against a Palace side looking for their fourth win on the bounce. Manager Alan Pardew has done great things since arriving at Selhurst Park and a top half finish isn't beyond the Eagles. I'm sure that he would also like to show the Newcastle board who let him go earlier in the season how to win at the Stadium of Light and I wouldn't back against his side doing just that.
Wolves to win away at Birmingham
Wolves are the current form team in the Championship and have won four in a row. That run has put them back into the play-offs and even automatic promotion isn't out of the question for them. They come up against a Birmingham side who have little to play for during the remainder of the campaign. The Blues have consolidated in mid-table since new manager Gary Rowett took charge and will be looking towards a possible promotion challenge next season. This should be a good midlands derby but I think that Wolves in their current run of form should have enough to come away with the three points and keep their dream of back to back promotions alive.
Swindon to beat Peterborough
Swindon's automatic promotion bid has suffered a major setback in the last week with back to back defeats against fellow promotion rivals MK Dons & Bristol City. The Play-offs now look likely for the Robins and they will want to go into them in better form. They can start to rebuild their confidence this weekend with a win against inconsistent Peterborough. Posh started the season well but went through a bad patch which saw them slip into the bottom half of League One which in turn led to manager Darren Ferguson leaving the club. They have managed to get themselves back into the top half and the play-offs are still a possibility but with just one win in five matches it looks like their season is coming to an uneventful end.
Plymouth to beat Mansfield
Neither of these sides are in the best current form. However they both have very different ambitions for the rest of the season. Mansfield have lost their last four and have scored just once in that time and are in danger of being dragged back into a relegation scrap. Plymouth have been on the edge of the play-offs all season. Their trouble is that they are too inconsistant. Argyle haven't won two games in a row since February and manager John Sheridan has come out and said that this game is massive for Plymouth. I expect Sheridan to have his men really fired up for this one and they should come away with all three points to enhance their play-off ambitions.
Grimsby to beat Wrexham
We finish this week’s accumulator in the non-league. The Conference title battle has become a three horse race with Grimsby looking to put in a late run to overcome Barnet and Bristol Rovers. To achieve that the Mariners need to win this weekend to make it five wins in six games. I wouldn't bet against them as they have now gone ten matches without a defeat. Wrexham have struggled this season. The Welshmen were well fancied at the start of the campaign but have found themselves stuck in mid-table. With the recent FA Trophy final defeat to North Ferriby added to the loss of their manager the end of the season can't come soon enough and I fully expect Grimsby to take home the points and win the final leg of this weekend’s accumulator bet.
