There is much manager upheaval in the Championship this week, with Dean Smith expected to take over at Brentford, these two teams have also have management issues of their own. He has work to do in order to win back over the Reading fans and Saturday’s 3-1 loss to Nottingham Forest isn’t the best way to go about it.

 

Over at Loftus Road, Neil Warnock is still in temporary charge of QPR following the sacking of Chris Ramsey. Warnock is only in place until a successor is appointed and despite rumours of talks taking place, Gary Rowett has insisted he’s very happy at Birmingham City whilst Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink si currently holding talks at QPR (at the time of writing).

 

Rangers picked up three points against Leeds on Saturday and they will be buoyed by both that result and the return of Charlie Austin, whose timely comeback from injury will stop them slipping further down the table.

 

One of the negative traits of the R’s this season is the fact they concede goals left, right and centre and it was the main reason for Ramsey losing this job last month. Just two victories in the last eight is a worry and both of those have been at home.

 

The Royals haven’t fared much better with just two wins in their last eight, both of those coming here in front of their own fans. A 2-1 victory over winless Bolton and a 1-0 win over Charlton will hardly set the pulses racing of the fans who pay to watch Reading week in, week out.

 

QPR haven’t won away since the 29th August and have lost their last three away games 1-0, before Saturday, they hadn’t managed a goal in four matches, but they are definitely looking more organised at the back under Warnock.

 

I think this Reading v QPR game will be pretty even with both sides hoping for an upturn in results. With Reading’s only two victories coming against the sides with the weakest away form and QPR not finding a win on the road for over three months, it might fail to ignite. It could end with a point each.

In terms of goals, it’s a difficult one to call and pick a football betting tip. With QPR scoring just a single goal in their last five away matches, the goals haven’t exactly been flowing, but they have a natural goalscorer back amongst their ranks in the aforementioned Charlie Austin and he could prove the difference. They still created plenty of chances in his absence, but had nobody to put them away. Reading have scored in each of their last five home matches and both teams have found the net in their last three. In fact, six of their last seven have had both teams scoring and I think this could go the same way.

We’ve mentioned him twice already, but Charlie Austin is surely the sensible bet for a first goalscorer tip. The former Burnley man surprised many when he remained in the Championship with a number of Premier League clubs sniffing around him. He does have his injury problems, but he netted on his comeback against Leeds and could have easily had another one.
