Preston vs Burnley Betting Tips and Predictions – Championship

Preston vs Burnley predictions and football betting tips for this week’s Friday night Championship fixture including a preview and Preston v Burnley team news.

The games come thick and fast in the Promotion race and Burnley compete in a hotly contested Lancashire derby at Deepdale. We’ve got the best bets for the Friday night match. Burnley secured a last minute equalised against Middlesbrough in midweek and they’ll look to get the better of their local rivals whilst securing important points in the promotion run-in.

Preston vs Burnley Preview

Preston

It’s job done for Simon Grayson and his Preston side, who have had a decent season back in the Championship. They’ve been solid and very hard to beat, but their lack of goals has prevented them from troubling the play-offs. Grayson is one of the names linked with the Aston Villa vacancy and the former Blackpool and Leeds manager has overseen his most successful season as a manager at this level. If he jumped ship in the summer, it would be a tremendous shame for the Lilywhites and for Grayson it would attract increased scrutiny and pressure.

Preston have the 7th best defence in the league and have worked from the back this season, although it’s no clean sheet in eight now. It’s two draws in two and they came back from a two goal deficit against Birmingham in midweek showing tremendous spirit.

Greg Cunningham secured the point in the Midlands on Tuesday night and he hailed the ‘fighting spirit’ of his side. Whilst his boss felt the point was thoroughly deserved. Preston got the better of their local rivals as they inflicted a rare defeat on the Clarets earlier in the season when they left Turf Moor 2-0 winners.

These two sides have played some memorable games in the past, including the 4-3 Burnley win back in 2010. The fightback from 2-0 down suggests their season isn’t over and they are still battling and they will refuse to make it easy for their near neighbours. PNE would love to put a dent into Burnley’s promotion hopes.

Watch: Burnley come from 3-1 down to beat Preston 4-3.

Burnley

One of the top three have the tendency to score an injury time goal and it was the turn of Burnley on Tuesday night as Michael Keane’s stoppage time leveller prevented Middlesbrough from taking all three points away from Turf Moor.

Once again, ‘Spirit’ and ‘Determination’ were behind the comeback and it was a vital point for Burnley, who would have trailed the Teessiders by five points had they not secured the draw.

‘We’re working on Dyche time’ said the goalscorer Keane and hailed his side’s ‘never say die attitude’. They are clearly playing for one another and the fact that the boss rarely tinkers with the starting eleven has helped understanding amongst the ranks.

With Brighton’s scintillating performances, particularly at the AMEX, Burnley can’t afford to slip up with the Seagulls now level on points. Boro lead the way, but they have to face Chris Hughton’s side on the final day of the season. Burnley have the so-called ‘easiest run in’, but this is a tough assignment against a side who would love to knock them off their perch.  Charlton and QPR await the Clarets after this.

Too many draws prevented Burnley from extending their lead at the top of the table, but they are now 20 games unbeaten in the Championship which is admirable at any level. They are still four goals better off than Brighton though and that could be crucial come the end of the season.

Preston Team News

The hosts used two different goalkeepers in their draw with Birmingham as Anders Lindegaard was forced off with an injury and replaced by a man who knows one or two things about wounds – Chris Kirkland. It’s a quick turnaround and Lindegaard will face a fitness test for this one, but Kirkland is an able deputy. Marnick Vermeijl was another who failed to complete the match and he is unlikely to be back for this match. Jermaine Beckford scored on his return last week, he came off the bench in midweek, but could earn a start here.

Burnley Team News

Sam Vokes and Joey Barton both came through unscathed on Tuesday after initially being doubtful for the promotion showdown with Middlesbrough. They will be likely to start once again as Dyche looks set to name the same eleven once more with Dean Marney partnering the aforementioned Barton in the centre of the park.

Preston vs Burnley Predictions

The first football tip for this game should be Both Teams to Score. Preston have failed to keep a clean sheet in eight games now and Burnley could capitalise on that. With this being a local derby, Preston are unlikely to sit back and their visitors have conceded six goals in their last four away matches. My first Preston v Burnley prediction is Both Teams to Score? Yes. It can be backed at 11/10 with Betfair.

BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE – 11/10 with BETFAIR

I think Preston will make this difficult for their visitors and I think they can get something from this game. They’ve drawn their last two games whilst Burnley have drawn four of their last six matches in the Championship. Their latest two victories have only been by a single goal and I think it’ll be a point each for these sides. My second Preston vs Burnley betting tip is for Draw.

DRAW – 5/2 with BET365

Andre Gray didn’t deliver for us on Tuesday’s anytime goalscorer betting tip, so we’ll opt for his strike partner Sam Vokes, who has had chance to return to full fitness and should be sharp enough to get on the scoresheet here. My third Preston vs Burnley betting tip is for Sam Vokes to score anytime.

SAM VOKES TO SCORE ANYTIME – 15/8 with BET VICTOR.
