Newcastle Team News, Injuries and Preview

Newcastle put in a very professional performance in midweek seeing off Cheltenham by 2 goals to nil. It’s the start of a busy period for the Magpies and it’s a real test of Rafa Benitez and his squad. Dwight Gayle and Aleksandar Mitrovic both hobbled off against the Robins and will not be fit enough for this game. Ayoze Perez has declared himself fit for this contest and is almost certain to get the nod. In further injury news, Ronaldo Aarons is out for up to 8 weeks.

DeAndre Yedelin joined the club this week and could immediately slot in at the back. Newcastle’s business is far from finished and it could be a busy transfer deadline day on Tyneside.

Newcastle have overcome their wobble which saw them lose back-to back games against Fulham and Huddersfield. They thumped Reading in their last home game here and that should give them plenty of confidence ahead of this clash.

Alan Judge has been heavily linked to the club and could join this week but the Brentford schemer is still overcoming a leg break. It will be a while before he’s seen in action, but he is one of the best players in the Championship.

Although they haven’t looked certain at the back, they’ve only shipped four goals in four matches and have conceded just a single goal in their last two games. Rafa is improving his side and working on finding the winning formula. How they deal with a hectic period remains to be seen.

They’ve only lost one of the last nine games in all competitions and although the wall of noise didn’t faze Huddersfield, it may hinder Brighton who drew many of their games on the road last season.

Newcastle to beat Brighton

Brighton Team News, Injuries and Preview

Brighton have some injury problems of their own. Liam Rosenior has been ruled out for this clash after finding himself on the wrong end of a hefty challenge against Reading. Solly March is a long term absentee but is on the way back whilst Connor Goldson is making his first re-appearance in the Under 23s next week.

The 2-2 draw with Reading was probably disappointing on the face of it. They were actually under the cosh at the end and could have lost the game, but not many sides will leave the Majeski with maximum points this season. It was their second consecutive draw on the road.

The Seagulls followed this up with a 2-4 win against Oxford in the EFL Cup, the second time they’ve put four past Oxford inside a month. There may be a few worries at the back for Brighton and they’ll be hoping the the return of Connor Goldson will sure things up. Dale Stephens is available again for this game and his presence in midfield could sure things up.

There are no issues at the other end where scoring hasn’t been a problem for a while. Glenn Murray has slotted straight back in at his old club and Anthony Knockaert is a constant menace. Tomer Hemed and Sam Baldock are also likely to hit double figures each this season.

Danny Holla has left the club this week and don’t be surprised to see another incoming player before the end of the window. Chris Hughton got his business done early with Murray and Norwood added to the side.

Newcastle vs Brighton Predictions

Newcastle will start favourites in the betting odds here for obvious reasons, but Brighton don’t lose often on the road. They draw regularly. They’ve only lost four times away from home in 2016. One of those was in the play-offs and one was in the FA Cup. Newcastle have injury problems and it could be a lighter attack from the Geordies. My first Newcastle v Brighton tip is for the match to end a draw at 12/5 with 888Sport.

Brighton’s backline hasn’t been convincing of late. Newcastle have only kept one clean sheet in the league so far and could be susceptible to the Brighton attack. This could be an entertaining affair for Saturday evening and both teams to score looks one of the banker bets of the weekend in the Championship.

Glenn Murray seems to have adapted well to the Championship after dropping down and he is the selection for an anytime goalscorer bet this weekend. He had a successful spell at the club previously scoring plenty of goals. He’s back, close to home and could find the back of the net here to complete our Championship predictions.
