Monaco v Tottenham predictions and football betting tips for this week’s Europa League match kicking off at 6pm on Thursday 1^st October 2015.

 

After thrashing Man City 4-1 at the weekend, I am sure there are many Tottenham fans that now expect their side to go to Monaco on Thursday and record another famous victory.

 

Being a Spurs fan myself, I am no exactly in that mind-set! While Saturday’s success over City certainly delighted me, I am not getting ahead of myself, especially when it comes to the Europa League.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has made his feelings regards the competition very clear in the past and despite the Argentinean slightly changing his tune given the fact that the winners of the Europa League now gain automatic qualification to the Champions League the following season, it will still always play second fiddle to the Premier League for Poch.

 

The trip to the south of France will undoubtedly see Pochettino take a leaf out of Claudio Ranieri’s book and become the tinkerman.

 

Contemplating the likely Tottenham line-up to play Monaco plays a big part in the process of selecting football tips for a match such as this. I expect Spurs to make a number of changes to their side for the clash, particularly to the back five. Against City on Saturday, the North London club started with Lloris, Walker, Alderweireld, Vertonghen and Davies. Monaco will probably come up against Vorm, Trippier, Wimmer, Vertonghen and Rose.

 

While the two full backs are more than capable of replacing Walker and Davies, the same can’t be said for Vorm and Wimmer. One thing I am sure Monaco will be hoping for however, is to see Fazio in the starting 11! Nonetheless, the changes to the defence will of course make Tottenham vulnerable and Monaco will fancy their chances of scoring. They won’t be alone though in expecting to score – Spurs can look at Monaco’s recent defensive record and will be rubbing their hands together. The Ligue 1 side have conceded eight goals in their last three fixtures, so it would be a surprise to see Leonardo Jardim’s team keep a clean sheet and that could well be the best Europa League bet of the night.

Even without in-form new striker, Son Heung-min, who is out with a foot injury picked up in the win over Man City at the weekend, Tottenham will cause the French outfit plenty of problems.
