Middlesbrough v Cardiff Predictions
The signing of Jordan Rhodes was supposed to be the final piece in the jigsaw of Middlesbrough’s promotion push and although the former Blackburn and Huddersfield man has got his first goal for his new club, it hasn’t turned out to the solution just yet. Boro are struggling to score and they aren’t defending as resolutely as they were earlier in the season. They still have an absolutely fantastic defensive record and they’ve only conceded more than a single goal in a match twice all season (against Hull and Reading).
For a side with so much creativity (Adomah, Downing, Ramirez etc) and so much firepower (Rhodes, Nugent, Stuani etc) they’ve been disappointingly blunt up front in the last few weeks. They’ve netted just three times in the last six games which is not promotion form and Aitor Karanka will be looking to stop the rot against the Bluebirds.
For Cardiff, Russell Slade is still having a hard time from the Cardiff fans, but they must have been delighted by the ease with which they saw off Brighton at the weekend in the early kick off. They were into a three goal lead by the 36th minute and looked good value for it as well.
Having Lex Immers start made a difference and despite struggling to field a recognised striker, there were plenty of positives to take out of the performance. At home they have been decent and they’ve only lost once all season in South Wales. Away from home they’ve been a little more inconsistent, but have taken seven points from a possible nine in their last three matches.
They’ve only conceded one goal in their last three games, which suggests they have tightened up defensively. After keeping five clean sheets in six, they lost their shape over the festive period, but appear to have found a knack of restricting sides again.
It’s now no defeat in six now for Cardiff and with Middlesbrough still not playing at their best and they have a couple of suspensions ahead of this one, I fancy backing Cardiff on the handicap for tonight’s football tips.
My first Middlesbrough v Cardiff betting tip is for Cardiff (+1) on the Handicap. It can be backed at 6/5 with Sky Bet which are currently the best odds.

Where Middlesbrough are concerned, the Under 2.5 goals is always very short in the betting odds. With their recent lack of goals though and steeliness at the back, it’s easy to see why.
Price wise, it is probably better to back both teams to find the net in this one. Middlesbrough should be scoring more and at some point, they are going to get back to their early season form in the final third. Cardiff scored four against Brighton, but they also netted three away at Huddersfield and Wolves, so they do like goals on the road.
My second Middlesbrough v Cardiff prediction is for Both Teams to Score? Yes. It can backed at 6/5 with Boylesports.

Lex Immers impressed and Peter Whittingham scored twice at the weekend, but it was the other goalscorer Anthony Pilkington, who might be worth backing here for any anytime goalscorer tip. It’s often difficult to know which striker Middlesbrough will start with, so it could be easier to back a Bluebirds player, who is deployed in a role further forward than he had been previously.
My third Middlesbrough v Cardiff prediction is for Anthony Pilkington to score anytime. He can bet on at 13/2 with 888Sport.
