Leeds Garry Monk

Leeds vs Derby Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview

Leeds vs Derby predictions and betting tips for the Friday night Championship fixture with the best odds for each bet, team news and head to head stats.

There’s a hugely important Championship encounter on Friday night as Derby travel to West Yorkshire to face Leeds. We’ve got three betting tips for the 19:45 kick off.

Leeds vs Derby Preview

It’s not often that Leeds fans exude positivity about the remainder of the campaign, but that’s exactly what Garry Monk has brought to Elland Road. The former Swansea boss has helped bring the good times back to Elland as his young side challenge for promotion this season but they must remain consistent between now and May.

A much changed side beat Cambridge on Monday to book their place in the next round of the FA Cup with the return of Alex Mowatt getting the fans talking. The youngster has struggled since he first burst onto the scene, but he could flourish under Monk’s tutelage.

The Whites have won five of the last six games in all competitions and four of the last five in the Championship. Since losing 1-0 to Derby on the 15th of October, they’ve lost just twice, both matches against the current top two (Brighton & Newcastle).

Many fans believe that Leeds are on the brink of something special and a victory over Derby will move them into 3rd and put plenty of distance between themselves and the Rams.

Steve McClaren’s Derby got back to winning ways against West Brom in the FA Cup on Saturday as they came from a goal behind to clinch a place in the 4th round.

Darren Bent scored a screamer to level proceedings and he will need to up his game with David Nugent arriving at the club this week. Derby aren’t short on strikers – Bent, Nugent, Matej Vydra, Johnny Russell, Nick Blackman, Chris Martin and Andreas Weimann are all on the books, but they are all fighting for a couple of places.

After embarking on a seven match winning sequence under new boss McClaren, they’ve shown a few inconsistencies of late. The hectic Championship schedule could be to blame.

They’ve failed to score in their last couple of Championship games drawing blanks against Wigan and Norwich. They’ve won just five away games all season – Wigan, Wolves, QPR, Cardiff and Preston.

Four of those five victories were against sides placed 16th of below.

They will be very dangerous here and a much changed Leeds defence will have to keep tabs on lively duo Tom Ince and Johnny Russell.

Leeds vs Derby Team News

Hadi Sacko and Liam Cooper are both suffering from injuries and are in a race to be fit for this encounter. Charlie Taylor has been ruled out for a couple of weeks with an ankle injury so Garry Monk will require a defensive re-shuffle.

Pontus Jansson is also starting a two game ban.

Jacob Butterfield is suspended for this tie after being sent off against Norwich last time out. Ikechi Anya is a doubt for this whilst Max Lowe, Marcus Olsson and Craig Forsyth are all struggling.

David Nugent and Julian De Sart will be looking for a start here whilst Will Hughes is also likely to return to the side.

Leeds vs Derby Head to Head

Leeds haven’t lost here against Derby since 2013 with two of the last three meetings here ending all square. The Whites have beaten Derby here just twice in the last ten years – 2005 and 2014.

Derby beat Leeds 1-0 earlier in the season. A second half Johnny Russell goal was enough to seal victory for the hosts.
