Leeds v Middlesbrough predictions and football betting tips for tonight’s Championship fixture including an anytime goalscorer tip and the best odds for our bets.
It’s the nearest thing that Middlesbrough have to a derby match when they visit Elland Road to face Leeds. Boro are on a poor run at just the wrong time and this trip to West Yorkshire will be far from easy, but will Leeds beat Middlesbrough tonight?
Leeds v Middlesbrough Predictions
Late January/Early February hasn’t gone to plan for Aitor Karanka and his Middlesbrough side so far with a poor run of form which has seen no win in four. A 93rd minute equaliser from deadline day signing Jordan Rhodes rescued a point against MK Dons in midweek and it came as much relief for the Spaniard and the travelling Teesside fans.
Boro still have the best defence in the league, but they have lacked their usual thriftiness of late with the preferred back four disrupted by injuries. Daniel Ayala is hoping to be back for this match and fans will be hoping the partnership of Ayala/Gibson can be re-instated.
George Friend is another absentee and the Devon-born left back leaves a gaping hole in the side. The former Doncaster man likes to get forward but is a steady pair of hands at full back.
It’s all very well blaming defensive injuries for the run, but the fact of the matter is that Middlesbrough aren’t scoring enough goals! With so much firepower in their squad, they should be netting with devastating regularity, but there is something wrong. Speculation over an unhappy Albert Adomah has been played down this week, but they need to start firing soon otherwise it could be another play-off campaign for Karanka’s side.
Leeds were becoming a solid outfit under Steve Evans and becoming incredibly hard to beat, but they have just dropped off in recent weeks with three defeats in their last five. Forest are an in-form side and a trip to the City Ground is always tough. Few sides come away from Portman Road with much and there was more than a whiff of controversy about Sheffield Wednesday’s win. But, Leeds simply aren’t scoring enough goals either!
Chris Wood is having continuous injury setbacks and many of the footballing fraternity are yet to be convinced that Souleymane Doukara is a professional football. True, he does score goals, but he looks unorthodox in his play and isn’t the man to fill the Kiwi’s boots. Alex Mowatt could be back for this, which will add some creativity and the spine of the team looks extremely solid, especially with the addition of Toumani Diagouraga from Brentford.
Leeds have only scored more than one goal once in their last eight games and without Wood, it’s hard to see them suddenly prolific against the best defence in the Championship.
It’s three goals in five games for Middlesbrough and they might struggle to break down a tough Leeds outfit. A low scoring game seems apparent for tonight’s football tips. But as expected, it’s a little short. It might be a better option to back a low scoring first half.
The first of my Leeds v Middlesbrough predictions is Under 0.5 first half goals. The best odds for this betting tip are 11/8 with Bet365.
It’s hard to call this one for a result prediction on Leeds v Middlesbrough tonight. But Leeds have drawn a whopping 12 games already this season, five of which have been at home. Middlesbrough have drawn fewer games, just six all season, but they’ve been held in their last two and there is nothing to suggest backing the away side at the moment.
The second of my Leeds v Middlesbrough betting tips is for a Draw. It can be backed at 21/10 with Ladbrokes which are the best odds.

With the misfiring Boro players on show, it might be safer to back Jordan Rhodes who is likely to be handed his first start under Aitor Karanka. The boss for some reason opted to keep him on the bench in Milton Keynes in midweek but should unleash him from the start against Leeds.
The third of my Championship predictions for Leeds v Middlesbrough today is for Jordan Rhodes. What are the best odds for Jordan Rhodes to score against Leeds tonight? 7/4 at William Hill.
