Top goalscorer is always one of the most popular ante-post bets to have a few quid on and today’s we’re looking at a couple of League One top goalscorer betting tips for this season.
The newly renamed EFL gets underway this weekend and we’ve picked out a couple of goalscorer bets for League One, one is 10/1 and the other is a big odds 50/1 each-way bet.
The man who remained on fire throughout the summer finished as top scorer in League One last season but Will Grigg will now be plying his trade in the Championship this season.
League One Top Goalscorer
The top three in the betting all finished in the top five last season and I think they can be a force once again. Lee Gregory had a fantastic season for Millwall whilst Billy Sharp should benefit from a change of management at Sheffield United. Sharp could have a brilliant season, but he isn’t getting any younger and could be prone to injuries.
Nicky Ajose – Charlton
Lee Gregory is very tempting, but he isn’t short of admirers and there’s a possibility he could be whisked away by a Championship club come January.
I’d rather take Nicky Ajose, who has moved from Wiltshire to South London. Charlton should be in the top half of the table and Ajose should start every game if fit. Alongside Lee Novak, he should benefit from the experience of the big man and I think Ajose should continue where he left off.
He’s netted in pre-season and hit 24 goals in a side who were inconsistent and finished 15th in the table. Surely he can improve on that.

Shaquille Coulthirst – Peterborough
A real outside bet, but at a large price, someone like Shaquille Coulthirst might be worth taking a chance on. The former Spurs man got going at the end of the last season when he got a decent run in the side. He is a predator and has struck at this level before. He’s never got into double figures during a season, but he’s never been at a club long enough.
Grant McCann has been playing him in pre-season and he’s netted a couple of times in the process.
It’s a real whim, but Peterborough should be one of the more forward thinking sides in the league and he could have a decent campaign.
