Ipswich v Nottingham Forest predictions and weekend football betting tips this 3pm Championship kick-off including an anytime goalscorer tip.
Nottingham Forest head to Suffolk looking to put an end to their three match losing streak at Portman Road whilst Ipswich are looking to make it back-to-back victories. We have the best football tips for the 3pm kick off in the Championship.
Ipswich v Nottingham Forest Predictions
After a run of 13 games without defeat and looking like possible play-off crashers, it’s all gone slightly sour for Forest. Three defeats on the bounce and just a single goal during that time leave them in 15th in the table. They were becoming a very solid outfit during December & January, but there is a goal-scoring issue which is holding them back. They’ve only scored three times in six games and they’ve only scored more than a single goal in a match twice in their last 14.
There’s no lack of creativity in their ranks but the football isn’t always to the fans liking. If they had a 20 goal-a-season poacher, they would be making a bold bid for a top six spot. Losing Britt Assombalonga was a huge blow pre-season and their striker Nelson Oliveira has just eight goals to his name this season and remains their top goalscorer. They are now the same amount of points away from a play-off spot as they are from slipping into the relegation zone and essentially they have little to aim for.
They face an Ipswich side, who are pretty handy at home, but have been inconsistent of late. They won 1-0 at the John Smith’s Stadium recently and Mick McCarthy will be hoping that kick starts a mini-run as we approach the business end of the season. They’ve lost four of the last six, although three of those have been away from home.
They were edged out here recently by Hull and their only defeats at Portman Road have come to current incumbents of the top six positions. Brighton, Derby, Middlesbrough and the aforementioned Tigers are the only sides to leave with maximum points in their back pocket.
There also appears to be a lack of goals for the Tractor Boys as well with just 10 scored in their last 12 games although fans will be pleased to hear than seven of them have been at Portman Road.
Daryl Murphy hasn’t managed to recreate his goalscoring campaign of last season yet and they have been the victim of injuries to the likes of Jonathon Douglas but with the firepower they have, they should be hitting at least two or three week in-week out.
Ben Pringle has been a positive addition to the side though and although he was brought in primarily as a creator, he notched the winner last weekend and has definitely improved McCarthy’s side.
Compared to the sides above them, Ipswich are one of the lowest spenders in the league but have assembled a thoroughly decent squad. They need to collect all three points to revive their play-off hunt. They have games coming up which could be viewed as winnable as they take on Bolton, Cardiff, Blackburn and Rotherham in their next four.
The narrow victory over Huddersfield should give them confidence to go on and win this. Although neither side are free-scoring, they have more potency than their opponents and that should be enough. My first Ipswich v Nottingham Forest betting tip is for Ipswich to win.
The best odds for Ipswich to beat Nottingham Forest are 6/5 with William Hill.

With a lack of goal-scoring instinct for both sides, it makes sense to back the under 2.5 goals market. Only two of Nottingham Forest’s last 11 have had three of more goals in them and just 12% of their away games have gone the same away. My second Ipswich v Nottingham Forest betting tip is for Under 2.5 goals.

With Murphy out of form and Sears only netting six times all season, Brett Pittman has to be the play on the goalscorer market for this weekend’s anytime goalscorer tip. Bigger prices can be taken about Ryan Fraser or Ben Pringle but I’d prefer to take the former Bournemouth man to find the net. My third Ipswich v Nottingham Forest betting tip is for Brett Pittman to score anytime. He can be backed at 11/5 with Ladbrokes.
