Basel v PSG Betting Tip
There are many short prices around in the midweek Champions League games, but PSG are slightly larger than many of their counterparts. This could be because they aren’t firing on all cylinders in Ligue 1 at the moment as they are six points behind Nice at the top of the table. Edison Cavani scored the only goal of the game as they narrowly saw off Lille on Friday night. They failed to beat Marseille the week before, but despite their lack of firepower, they’ve been defensively sound. They’ve let in just two goals in six games and should be able to keep Basel out here. The Swiss side have picked up just a single point from three matches in the Champions League so far and despite being at home, the French champions should get the job done for Unai Emery.
PSG win – 8/13 with William Hill.
Benfica v Dynamo Kiev Betting Tip
The second short price selection from Tuesday night’s Champions League comes from Portugal. Benfica have had a mixed start to their European campaign so far, but did beat Kiev in Ukraine on Matchday 3. A comfortable 2-0 win gave them their first three points in Group B and they can add another three to that total here. They are looking to sneak past Besiktas into 2nd place in the group with a victory here. Benfica haven’t lost since the end of September when they were defeated by Napoli. Like PSG, they’ve been defensively sound and have conceded just two goals in six games. Kiev have drawn their last three away games, two of them against opposition from the Ukrainian league. Benfica were held by Besiktas in their first home game in this competition, but the Turkish side have proved difficult opposition and beat Napoli in the previous round.
Benfica win – 8/13 with William Hill.
Borussia Monchengladbach v Celtic Betting Tip
Borussia Monchengladbach haven’t been great on the road this season, but they did manage a victory at Celtic Park on Matchday 3. It was a dominant performance from the German side throughout and they deserved their three points. Celtic were optimistic going into the game after holding Manchester City to a draw in the previous round. Gladbach have been excellent at home though this season and have conceded just 1 goal in the league here so far. They were defeated by Barcelona in this competition, but it was a narrow victory for the Spanish side and they came out of it with plenty of credit. Brendan Rodger’s side have been dominant domestically, but Gladbach are playing far better opposition and should have enough quality to do the double over the Glasgow side.
Monchengladbach win – 8/15 with William Hill.
Coventry v Chesterfield Betting Tip
Coventry have improved of late. Since Tony Mowbray left the club and his assistant took over they’ve put together a decent run. Mark Venus has made fewer changes during his tenure and largely stuck with the same XI, which has paid dividends. They’ve lost just once in their last seven games in all competitions and they should be backed at the Ricoh on Tuesday night. They beat Rochdale and Oxford recently conceding just a single goal in the process. Chesterfield haven’t won since the 17th of September and are on a run of six consecutive defeats. Danny Wilson’s side have looked toothless in the last month and have one goal in those six games. They haven’t found the net in League One since the end of September. The Sky Blues should take this one.
Coventry win – 5/6 with William Hill.
Bristol Rovers v Fleetwood Betting Tip
Bristol Rovers were surprisingly beaten at home to Peterborough at the weekend, but I think they will be able to bounce back with their game in hand. The Gas took the lead and were controlling the game. They were on course for a sixth successive victory but a goalkeeping howler allowed Posh back into it. It was a rare mistake from Kelle Roos who has been excellent up to now. Bristol Rovers were punished for a rare moment of poor defending later on as Peterborough found a winner, but Darrell Clarke’s side didn’t deserve to lose the match. Fleetwood’s away form isn’t inspiring enough to back them here. They’ve only won twice, once against a poor Chesterfield side and the other at Roots Hall. Bristol Rovers should have enough to bounce back and win this one. Clarke said that you have to take knocks along the way and his side in 8th place can bounce back at the Memorial.
Bristol Rovers win – Evens with William Hill.
