Sunday’s Football Accumulator Tips
Ipswich v Norwich – Norwich win
Portman Road is a tough place to go but Norwich know the journey well and Alex Neil’s side are likely to come out on top. The Canaries have started well and are yet to be defeated. A 0-0 draw at Sheffield Wednesday was followed by a 1-0 win over Bristol City. They’ve tightened up at the back and all that is missing is a striker. It’s something Alex Neil is working on and I’m sure it will be resolved by the end of the month. Mick McCarthy’s side will be typically well organised and tough to break down, but with the exception of a Grant Hat-trick on the opening day, they haven’t been scoring enough. Daryl Murphy isn’t the force of old and they haven’t beaten Norwich for 7 years. I expect that run to continue.
Sparta Rotterdam v Go Ahead Eagles – Sparta Rotterdam win
Off to the Eredivisie for our second selection and it’s a meeting between two sides who have recently been promoted. Sparta started with a defeat, but they didn’t disgrace themselves against Ajax and even got on the scoresheet. They followed that up with a thumping 0-3 win at Zwolle which is never an easy place to go. That set the benchmark for the season and they should be able to dispatch Go Ahead Eagles who have picked up just a point from their opening couple of matches. They were soundly beaten by ADO Den Haag in their opening away match this campaign and I can’t see them pulling off a surprise here. It finished 3-1 to Sparta when they met here in the second tier last season.
FC Utrecht v AZ – FC Utrecht win
FC Utrecht have been impressive so far this season and they take on an AZ side who could be a little tired from their European adventures. They travelled to Serbia, beating Vojvodina 0-3, but it was a very strong side and we often see these punishing schedules affect sides. It’s never an easy place to go, even when you are fully fresh off the back of a week’s rest. FC Utrecht started with a loss to PSV, although they had the best of the first half before eventually coming undone against the Champions. They drew 2-2 with a decent Heerenveen side last week and I think they’ll put a couple past a tired AZ. Utrecht have won 6 of the last 7 meetings between the sides here.
Zaglebie v Leczna – Zaglebie win
The Ekstraklasse is around six games old and the home side sit top of the table at this early stage of the season. They’ve drawn their last two games but they should get the better of a Leczna side who are conceding too many goals. Zaglebie have a decent backline and have conceded just a single goal so far, whilst scoring 9 times. Leczna got their first win last week, but that was at home and they’ve lost both of their away matches 2-1. They’ve only scored four times and you can’t imagine them causing too many moments of panic for the home side. Leczna have never won here and the sides have met six times. Zaglebie are strong here and won their last four games at home towards the end of last season.
Amkar Perm v Ural – Amkar win
Three games into the new Russian Premier League and Amkar are yet to concede a goal. They won their first home game of the season 2-0. They’ve kept it tight on the road picking up two 0-0 draws. They should have enough to see off Ural who are not one of the better away sides in the league. They managed to hold Rostov to a 0-0 draw in the first week of fixtures, but going back through their away record, it’s poor. They won just twice since mid-October, both have been against Spartak Moscow and one of those was in a club friendly. Amkar will be hard to break down and they’re far more likely to find the net here at home.
