Sunderland vs Middlesbrough Betting Tips, Predictions and Preview

Sunderland vs Middlesbrough betting tips and Premier League predictions for Sunday’s early kick-off with two bets in what could be a hotly contested fixture.

Sunderland face Middlesbrough on Sunday with both sides looking for their first win of the season. Here are some predictions for the derby match which will be shown live on Sky Sports.

Sunderland

David Moyes said that he was happy with his player’s performance last Saturday against Manchester City where his side lost 2-1 thanks to a Paddy McNair own goal and if they put in the same performance at home to Middlesbrough they will probably get a better result. Moyes has wasted no time in bringing some ex-Manchester United players with him to the stadium of light with three arrivals from United. Donald Love is a promising prospect but he looked out of his depth last weekend against City and Paddy McNair couldn’t have got off to a worst start as a Sunderland player scoring an own goal that condemned his team to defeat. However, in Adnan Janzuaj they have a player who will provide flair and unpredictability in his game which is something that Sunderland fans haven’t seen much of in recent times. He was touted at the next big thing three years ago, but he hasn’t had consistent game-time which is why his career hasn’t developed as he would have liked. But I do think that this was a brilliant acquisition from Moyes and I can see Janzuaj getting numerous assists for the prolific Jermain Defoe this season.

Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka also said that he was happy with his side’s performance last weekend when they drew 1-1 with Stoke.  They played very well in the first half and new striker Alvaro Negredo scored his first goal of the season when he bundled it in from close range. Considering that ‘Boro had five new signings in their starting line-up, it seemed as if they had been playing together for longer and they really did gel together, the only thing that stopped them getting all three points was an excellent Shaqiri free-kick. Gaston Ramirez was voted man of the match for this game and it looks as if he is finally showing why he was so highly regarded when he initially came to the Premier League with Southampton. He is an exciting player and if he can build a partnership with Negredo, then I believe Middlesbrough fans will be very happy this season.  Not only is this match a derby, this is a huge game considering that both these teams are expected to be battling relegation this season and I think this will show with quite a close contest.

Sunderland vs Middlesbrough Predictions

My first Sunderland vs Middlesbrough prediction for this game is going to be for both teams to score which is 11/10 with Betfred. With this being a derby game I can see both teams going for the win to please their fans and both sides aren’t the strongest in defence. Also with clinical finishers like Defoe and Negredo on the pitch, I do fancy both teams to get a goal and this is fantastic value at 11/10.

My second Sunderland vs Middlesbrough betting tip is going to be a unique one and it is because I think that there will be a penalty awarded in the match. Sunderland conceded one in the early stages last week against Manchester City and I think that with this being a tight match, a mistake could be costly from one of the poor defenders on show. You can get odds of 9/2 for a penalty to be awarded in the match on Betfair.
