Tonight’s Football Accumulator Tips

Rotherham v Huddersfield – Rotherham win

Other than a complete collapse from the Millers and a herculean effort from MK Dons, Neil Warnock’s side have no remaining relegation fears. They have improved dramatically and were sitting proudly atop the form table only last week. They couldn’t find a way past Nottingham Forest on Saturday, but they have improved considerably at the back. Huddersfield got three points at the weekend which secured their status in the second tier next season, but that was against a very poor Blackburn outfit where uncertainty over Paul Lambert’s future remains. Rotherham have lost just once in the last ten and they have the highest number of victories out of any of the bottom eight. They should be able to take all three points here and get our accumulator tip off to a flying start.

Scunthorpe v Bury – Scunthorpe win

Not much to play for in this one, but new boss Graham Alexander is still making his mark and the players want to impress him ahead of next season. The Iron have only lost five times all season at Glamford Park and are undefeated here in the last ten. They won on their travels at already relegated Crewe at the weekend and could have had more than the three they converted. They look lively going forward and the inclusion of young winger Hakeeb Adelukan has provided some creativity and unpredictability to proceedings. They also possess the deadly Paddy Madden, who is one of the best marksmen at this level. He scored again at the weekend and there is plenty of optimism ahead of next campaign. Bury have been okay this season, a little inconsistent, but poor on the road. They’ve won just twice in 10 away games and the last one of them came against out-of-form Swindon on Saturday.

Walsall v Swindon – Walsall win

A token short price to throw in here as the Saddlers look certainties to beat the beleaguered Swindon. The Robins are incredibly short of confidence and on a dreadful run of form. They lost at home to Bury at the weekend and a trip to the Bescott will not be easy. Jon Whitney came under scrutiny during the clubs poor run, but he’s turned it around with back to back victories over Southend and importantly Gillingham. They aren’t free-scoring by any definition, but they’re strong at the back and they nick a goal or two at just the right time. It’s just six away wins all season for Swindon and Luke William’s side are on a downward spiral with no wins in the last five, taking just a single point against Fleetwood. It would be incredibly unlikely and unlucky for them to get dragged into a relegation dogfight, but a couple more points and they could breathe easy. I don’t think they’ll be heading back to Wiltshire with anything tonight though.

Barnet v Notts County – Barnet win

Despite their position in the league, Barnet can boast the 4th best home record in the league at the Hive and should add another one to the tally here. The Bees have got the job done this season under Martin Allen and it’s been a decent return to league football, one which they can build on for next season. They’ve only lost three home matches in the last ten. The latest was against promotion hunting (and away specialists) Oxford, so that can be excused. They’ve seen off some good sides here recently with Luton, Plymouth and Leyton Orient all leaving with nothing. Notts County will be reeling from being hit for five by local rivals Mansfield and Mark Cooper ordered his side in for an extra day of training this week. Will it work? We’ll wait and see, but it’s hard to have confidence in a side who have won just four times away all season.

Newport v Oxford – Oxford win

As mentioned above, Michael Appleton’s side are away specialists and it’s keeping them hot on the heels of Bristol Rovers in the race for promotion. They’ve been a let-down at the Kassam though chalking up another loss on Saturday to Luton. They certainly have the players to win this and eventually book their place in League One. James Roberts hit the post on Saturday and Danny Hylton was a constant menace. Kemar Roofe has been a revelation and is surely destined to play at a higher level. On the contrary, Newport boss Warren Feeney bemoaned his side ‘lacked quality’ as they slumped to a defeat to Stevenage. There’s plenty of re-shaping to do in the summer, but they are unlikely to be able to trouble an Oxford side who still have promotion firmly in their sights.
