Europa League Accumulator Tips 8/12/16
Southampton v Hapoel Beer Sheva – Southampton win
The Saints have won both of their games so far at St Marys and should continue that trend against Hapoel Beer Sheva. The Israeli side have competed well in the group and held Southampton to a goalless draw on Matchday 2, but home advantage will help the hosts here. This is a straight shoot-out between the two sides with the winner progressing and the loser eliminated. If the match ends 0-0, Southampton progress whilst a score draw sends the away side through. Claude Puel needs his side to pick up all three points and they will have to attack from the off. Hapoel Beer Sheva lost their last away game to Sparta Prague and although they won at the San Siro, Inter’s heads weren’t in it. Saints should bounce back from the disappointment at the weekend and secure their passage to the next round.
Osmanlispor v FC Zurich – Osmanlispor win
Group L is arguably the most exciting group coming into the final Thursday of fixtures. All four teams can still progress with the Turkish side Osmanlispor leading the way on 7 points. They beat Bucharest in their opening game here before drawing with Villareal and have looked decent along the way. FC Zurich are competing in the second tier of Swiss football and whilst they may be blowing opponents away week in, week out, this is a step up. Away from home, they are yet to win in this competition with a 2-1 defeat at Estadio El Madrigal and a draw against Steaua Bucharest. Osmanlispor cannot risk any of the sides catching them, so they need the points here and Turkish grounds are often a difficult place to visit. The hosts are looking for a fourth straight victory here and will be confident of getting it.
Sassuolo v Genk – Sassuolo win
The Italian side cannot qualify for the next round after a disappointing run of form in both Serie A and the Europa League. Eusebio Di Francesco’s side do look like they’re coming back to life following 4 points from a possible 6 against Napoli and Empoli. They can lift themselves off the bottom here with a victory and salvage some pride. They are facing a side who have already qualified and may not be interested in this fixture. Genk has lost their two away games in the group convincingly with their last ending 5-3 in favour of Athletic Bilbao. They haven’t travelled well, but their home form has secured them a spot in the next round. This is a dead rubber, but ahead of a crucial pre-Christmas period in Serie A, Sassuolo will not want to slump to another defeat here.
Feyenoord v Fenerbahce – Feyenoord win
The Dutch side can still qualify in a congested Group A. Fenerbahce lead the way, but they are not quite there yet. They will be through with a point, but if they can think they are in for an easy ride, they can think again. Feyenoord need a 2 goal margin and will be desperate for victory. They’re leading the way in the Eredivisie and will not want to go out at the group stage, especially with Ajax already through. They are formidable at De Kuip and hit 6 at the weekend against Sparta Rotterdam. Fenerbahce have picked up just a single point on the road so far with a draw in Ukraine against Zorya and a hammering at the hands of Manchester United. Back another miserable away trip for the Turkish side with the Rotterdam club prevailing.
Standard Liege v Ajax – Standard Liege win
Standard Liege are battling for a place in the next round and they are hoping to join tonight’s opponents Ajax. The Dutch outfit are already through and Peter Bosz has announced he will make changes for this game. Standard Liege are level on points with Celta Vigo and will be looking to progress with three points here. They are strong at home and have lost just a single game since February, that came at the hands of Anderlecht. They have drawn both of their games in this group so far here and they will need to secure all three to stand any chance of progressing. An Ajax re-shuffle may play into their hands so back the Belgians to prevail in this one.
