Football Accumulator Tips 23/01/16
Crystal Palace v Tottenham – Tottenham to win
We start this week’s accumulator bet with a Premier League London derby. Both these clubs sit comfortably in the top half of the Premier League and while Palace would be more than happy to end the season in the same position, Tottenham have greater ambitions. In this most unpredictable of seasons Spurs find themselves in the top four and arguably playing some of the best football in the division. They travel to Selhurst Park on the back of just a single away defeat all season and on a run of four wins in six. Palace has had a decent first half to the campaign but do struggle to score goals. They have failed to find the net in five matches and have lost three in a row. If Spurs do have ambitions of winning the league or finishing in the top four, then this is the kind of match that they should be winning and I think that they will have too much fire power for the stuttering Eagles.
Birmingham v Ipswich – Ipswich to win
We continue this week’s accumulator tip in the Championship. After last season’s play-off disappointment Ipswich manager Mick McCarthy has ambitions of his side achieving promotion this season. That was never more in evidence than on Tuesday when he played a complete reserve side in an FA Cup replay at league Two Portsmouth. They lost. He can now fully concentrate on the league and improving on an away record that is second to none in the league. Birmingham is another club in the promotion mix and they sit just a single place behind The Tractor Boys in eighth. Both clubs will hope to end the weekend in a play-off position but I just fancy Ipswich to come out on top and improve on their away record that has seen them unbeaten on the road since mid-October.
Burton v Shrewsbury – Burton to win
This time last season these two clubs had just started to battle it out for the League Two title. Burton just edged it in the end. Twelve months on and they have very different agenda’s this time around. Shrewsbury have struggled all season and have failed to find any consistency. They have now dropped into the relegation zone after a run of just a single victory in eight and also a 7-1 thrashing by fellow strugglers Chesterfield. Burton Albion on the other hand have a real chance of achieving back to back promotions and playing at Championship level for the first time in their history. Their main strength is a defence that have conceded just 19 times all season which is by far the best in the division. They have also lost just once at home which was way back in September and they should have more than enough to take the three points in this one.
Exeter v Accrington – Accrington to win
Accrington have been the surprise package in League Two this season. As with most seasons they were tipped for relegation but this term they find themselves battling it out at the top for promotion. They currently sit in sixth position after Tuesday’s win over Hartlepool and are just six points behind an automatic promotion spot with three matches in hand. They have won six of their last nine and look like a club gaining in confidence at just the right time of the season. Exeter still have a chance of gate crashing the play-offs but they will need to find some consistency. They did their reputation no harm by taking Liverpool to a replay in the FA Cup before eventually losing at Anfield on Tuesday. A match like that can take it out of a squad and I believe that Accrington can take advantage of this and get the three points they need to close the gap on the top three.
Wycombe v Leyton Orient – Wycombe to win
We finish this weekend’s football accumulator tip in League Two. Both these clubs have ambitions of being promoted to League One in May so they both need to get more points on the board as soon as they can. Wycombe are having a good season and currently occupy a play-off position despite two recent league defeats. Manager Gareth Ainsworth will now expect his squad to fully concentrate on securing promotion after Tuesday's FA Cup exit and they may not get a better chance to get back to winning ways than taking on struggling Leyton Orient. The O's re having a frustrating season. After winning their first five games of the season they have since only won four in 21 matches. Rookie player manager Kevin Nolan has a big job on his hands trying to turn things around and I don't think that they will have enough to get anything out of this one.
