Football Accumulator Tips 29th March

Macedonia v Bulgaria – Bulgaria win

Bulgaria pulled off an almighty shock on Friday night as they beat Portugal by a goal to nil. They don’t score many, but they proved they were solid at the back. One goal could be all they need again here to beat a poor Macedonia side. The Bulgarian keeper had a stormer as he faced over 40 shots from Christiano Ronaldo and teammates and still managed to keep a clean sheet. If they show that kind of resilience again here, then the price on them to win looks very generous. It’s two wins in a row now – 3 goals scored, none conceded. It’s just a single win in 12 for the hosts and that was against Montenegro – a side who have conceded 11 goals in four matches. Bulgaria need to keep their shape here and not get complacent, but they should get the job done.

Austria v Turkey – Austria win

Austria are an exciting prospect ahead of Euro 2016. They looked competent in qualifying and they have some exciting players. Arnautovic is a familiar name to Premier League fans and Marc Janko is in flying form. He scored again in Austria’s 2-1 victory over Albania at the weekend. David Alaba is a commanding force at the back and many people are seeing them as outsiders for the tournament. It’s unlikely they will make too many changes here and they should see of Turkey at home. The visitors beat Sweden, but couldn’t find a way past Greece and that must surely be a concern. Burak Yilmaz is also missing for this one and that leaves them a little light up front. With Austria winning seven of nine matches, I think the home side can carry on their momentum.

Ireland v Slovakia – Ireland win

It was another solid display from Ireland on Friday night as they scored after just two minutes and then held on against a Swiss side who offered little. Despite losing striker Kevin Doyle to injury, they always looked a threat on the break and it showed how well organised and drilled Martin O’Neill has his side. They face an ever-improving Slovakia side on Tuesday night, but I think they can put in a similar performance again. They are unbeaten here since a loss to Turkey in May 2014 and they are a force to be reckoned with. It would be five wins in a row if they could get the job done and they are still missing some key figures. Slovakia have been decent away from home recently, but they have only beaten the likes of Macedonia and Luxembourg and this is a much stiffer challenge.

England v Netherlands – England win

There was much to admire about England’s performance on Saturday night as they saw off Germany. The young guns gave fans plenty of be optimistic about as they put in a spirited display to come from two down. There seems to be plenty of options for Roy Hodgson these days and with Harry Kane, Danny Welbeck, Jamie Vardy and Daniel Sturridge all pushing for a start, it’s an exciting forward line. We don’t know what kind of team will be put out, but there is a wealth of options. The Netherlands lost to France on Friday night. They came back from 2-0 down, but lost late on to a Blaise Matuidi goal. Their defending left a lot to be desired and I think England can take advantage of that.

Portugal v Belgium – Belgium win

Portugal ambled their way to qualification for the Euros and despite winning the group, they never really looked convincing. They often won by a single goal, a fragile margin and that’s a dangerous game. Belgium looked very impressive in their friendly in November against Italy and they showed they can mix it with the big boys. The over-reliance on Christiano Ronaldo must be a worry for Portugal fans and they can’t seem to fit a system around him. Belgium have a number of stars who could make the difference and Romelu Lukaku is firing for fun in the Premier League. Batshuayi is another decent looking prospect and they will be an exciting watch at the Euros. I think they can do what Bulgaria did on Friday and see off a sorry Portuguese side.
