Lyon sit 3rd in the Ligue 1 table and face an away trip on Friday night. They’ve won six of the last eight and their only defeat in that time came against Lille, who are very handy at home. Montpellier got a very decent goalless draw at PSG, but have failed to build upon that taking just one point from their next three games. They’ve failed to score in two of those three and will be hoping to put that right here. Sadly, for the home side, Lyon are very strong and have hit form at just the right time. They are chasing down second place Monaco and can go level on points with them here. They are also looking for revenge after Montpellier beat them 2-4 earlier in the season during a lean spell for Lyon. I think the away side can build on their recent good run here.

PEC Zwolle v Roda JC – PEC Zwolle win

PEC Zwolle are home specialists. They are roared on by passionate fans and that has helped them to eight victories here throughout the Eredivisie season. They have only won 12 times all season, so when at the Ijsseldelta Stadion they are usually worth backing. Roda JC are an odd team though and can either be brilliant (0-5 win at Heracles) or woeful (3-0 loss at De Graafchap) on the road. We’re going to hope it’s the latter as they’ve only won four times away all season. They beat Cambuur recently, but they are struggling and have won just once since the start of January. PEC Zwolle have lost just one of their last six home games and I think they can get the job done here.

Boavista v Arouca – Arouca win

 Off to Portugal for the 3rd of our selections. Arouca have a decent away record and although they got beaten heavily by Sporting on their last away day, I fancy them to come back strong. They have the 5th best away record in the league picking up 19 points from 14 games. They have won four times this season on their travels, three of which have been since February. They have seen off Belenenses, Tondela and impressively, FC Porto. Boavista are struggling down at the wrong end of the table. They have picked up just two points from their last five home matches and will need to improve on that record if they are to rise above 16th place. They got a decent point at Guimaraes last time out, but their opponents that day were coming off the back of three straight losses.

Laval v Sochaux – Draw

There’s another feast of action from Ligue 2 once again and these two sides are fairly evenly matched. If you take recent matches, these are very much draw specialists. Laval are without a win in eight, but they have drawn six of those. They have lost their last two games, but they were against rapidly improving sides. Sochaux are still struggling for goals which has been the story of their season. They average just 0.69 goals a game away from home. They have drawn their last two games 0-0, so they aren’t bad at the back, but lack a goalscorer. Don’t be surprised if this one is goalless. This won’t be a match for the neutral, but it should end all square.
