Finland Vs Northern Ireland betting tips and football predictions for Sunday 11th October’s Euro 2016 qualifying match.
After sealing qualification to Euro 2016, Northern Ireland finish their campaign with a trip to Finland and our football tipster has got three football betting tips.
Finland v Northern Ireland Predictions
Michael O’Neill’s side secured their spot at next year’s finals in France, with a 3-1 win against Greece, in what turned out to be a famous and historic night for Northern Irish players, staff and fans alike.
The final match of Northern Ireland’s qualifying campaign has the hallmarks of turning into a quiet and understated affair, with Michael O’Neill’s side having already qualified taking on a Finland side that have looked poor throughout the qualifying stages, with four losses coming in a row either side of Christmas resulted in them not being able to qualify and failing to hold onto their lead against Romania in midweek meant they were also unable to reach the playoffs going into this match.
Although many Northern Irish players may still be nursing saw heads after Thursday night’s celebrations, it is clear that this fixture still holds massive significance for Michael O’Neill and his side. A point or more will mean they finish top of their group ahead of Romania, which is important for NI to show the rest of Europe that they are not there to make up the numbers this summer.
For Finland this game too holds some form of significance. Inspiration for these Finish players to perform come Sunday might come from the threat of new manager Hans Becke axing many of the squad that were part of their disappointing qualifying campaign. Meaning that some players might just be playing for their international futures against Northern Ireland.
These sides last played in the reverse fixture in Belfast, where a brace from Lafferty saw NI to a 2-1 victory. Across eight fixtures, the Northern Irish men have collected four wins, one draw and three losses against Finland. NI last won on Finnish soil back in 2006, to avenge to prior losses away from home.
I believe this fixture can only end in a NI victory, coming off the back of a comfortable win against Greece in which Steve Davis and Josh Magnennis continued to show their excellent form for their country with some superb finishes. On top of that confidence within the camp will be as high as it’s ever been, and that will only increase when leading goal scorer Kyle Lafferty returns.
Finland too have showed they are coming into some late form with two recent victories and with them set to start leading goal scorer Joel Pohjanpalo and Riku Riski up front I can see there being a few goals in this game with Finland desperate to impress their future manager. But with NI desperate to qualify top of the group and the form they are in they should take all 3 points in this fixture.
