Europa League Accumulator Tips

Ajax v Panathinaikos – Ajax win

The Amsterdam club may already be through to the knock-out stages, but they can guarantee top spot with three points here. They’ve been very strong at home and should get the job done against the worst side in the group. Peter Bosz’s side haven’t been defeated since August and are building up a head of steam before the Christmas break. They put 5 past NEC at the weekend here and beat Celta Vigo narrowly in the previous round of this competition. They’ve won 8 consecutive home matches in all competitions and although one of two players may be rested, Bosz will not want to lose momentum. Panathinaikos haven’t won away since the 10th of September and they come into this match having not played for over two weeks. They sit bottom of the group with just a single point and although they can still qualify, it would take a major turnaround and three goals in four games suggests they aren’t going to fire themselves in the next stage.

Athletic Bilbao v Sassuolo – Athletic Bilbao win

A short priced selection for our second tip as the Spanish side should have too much firepower for the Italian side who are sinking down the Serie A table. Sassuolo were two up at the weekend, but a 10-minute turnaround from Sampdoria snatched all the points from there and it completed a miserable run of four consecutive defeats for Eusebio Di Francesco’s side. Bilbao beat Villarreal, a side who also play this evening and restricted the visitors to few chances. The hosts could have had further goals in the match, but one was enough to see them maintain a decent home record this season with only a defeat to Barcelona blotting their copybook. Sassuolo have picked up just a point from their two away matches whilst Bilbao’s two victories have both come at home. Adruiz notched five goals in the last round, expect him to be lively again here.

Hapoel Beer Sheva v Inter – Inter win

Former Inter boss Frank De Boer cared little for this competition and it reflected in some of their early season results. Inter have just three points to show for their four matches so far and remarkably they can still qualify. It’s a tight group and with Sparta entertaining Southampton, Inter will be looking to move off the bottom. They did beat the Saints at home, but that’s their sole victory in the competition. Stefano Pioli has taken over and his side battled to the end to pick up a valuable point against rivals AC at the weekend. They can take heart from that performance and Pioli will be looking to continue his decent start as boss at the San Siro. This is never an easy place to go, but Beer Sheva haven’t scored since Matchday 1 and they lack a threat against the better sides. They beat Inter in the reverse fixtures, but the Italians were a different beast back then and have improved. They have players capable of moments of magic.

Zurich v Villarreal – Draw

A tightly congested group in which any side can still qualify and I think these two sides will be forced to take a share of the spoils. FC Zurich should be full of confidence as they sit ten points clear at the top of the Swiss second tier. They have more than held their own in this competition so far though.  They currently sit 2nd in the group, level on points and goal difference with tonight’s opponents. The Swiss outfit have drawn their last two games including a 0-0 draw at home to Steau Bucharest last time out. Villarreal have been unable to build upon their victory on Matchday 1 against tonight’s opposition. They’ve since drawn twice and lost once and may have to settle for a point. Their loss to Osmanlispor was particularly disappointing as they were 1 down inside 10 minutes. They will need to defend better here, but should have enough about them to pick up a point.

Fiorentina v PAOK – Fiorentina win

Paolo Sousa’s side are probably priced a little generously because of their inability to turn draws into wins at home. Their last four matches here have all ended square and many expect this one to follow suit. PAOK are not a great side though and haven’t had a game for a couple of weeks. The Italian side’s firepower should be too much for them. On the road, Fiorentina have been fantastic this campaign and beat Empoli 4-0 at the weekend. That made it 10 goals in their last three away trips and they are firing on all cylinders on the road. That has got to translate to their own turf at some stage and I think they can beat the Greek side without too many troubles. PAOK have lost their last two games in the group and have netted just twice so far. It’s a poor return and 1-0 might do for the hosts.
