Derby vs Sheffield Wednesday Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview

Derby vs Sheffield Wednesday predictions and betting tips for this weekend’s Championship 3pm kick-off on Saturday 29th October and our tipsters’ reasons for each bet.

There’s a big match at the iPro on Saturday afternoon as Sheffield Wednesday face Derby. We’ve got the best three bets for the Championship fixture.

Derby had collected 8 points in four matches, but it all went sour when they conceded a late goal to Huddersfield last weekend. Elias Kachunga’s strike gave the Terriers all three points and it was a defeat for the Rams. Steve McLaren claimed he wasn’t concerned as ‘his team are in transition’ and whilst he is correct, the lack of goals for his side is alarming. They are just one place and two points above the relegation zone and they need put some daylight between themselves the drop zone as soon as possible. It’s a side who have lacked confidence in front of goal all season despite having a wealth of striking options. They’ve netted just 7 goals all campaign, the lowest by some distance and it’s painfully obvious where the improvement is needed. On the other hand, Sheffield Wednesday are trucking along quite nicely. They currently sit in 5th place and have won three of the last five games. They tend to be weaker on their travels, but have picked up four points from a possible six in their last two games on the road. They even beat Huddersfield recently, which is impressive. Ricardo Carvalhal’s side haven’t been at their flowing best this season, but they are gradually improving and look promotion candidates.

Derby vs Sheffield Wednesday Betting Predictions

Sheffield Wednesday have conceded just a single goal in their last three matches and look back to their defensive best. Derby find it hard to score and it could be best to play the away side on the Draw No Bet market for my first Derby vs Sheffield Wednesday betting tip.

Over/Under 2.5 Goals Tips

It’s a short priced selection, but I can’t foresee many goals in this one. Derby have just seven to their name, but are quite handy at the back. Wednesday do have goalscorers, but could find themselves frustrated in this one for long periods so I’m on under 2.5 goals for my second Derby vs Sheffield Wednesday prediction.

Under 2.5 Goals – 3/5 with Bet Victor.

Anytime Goalscorer Tips

Fernando Forestieri scored the winner against Huddersfield last week and he is likely to line up alongside Gary Hooper. The former Celtic and Norwich is always going to find the space to get shots of and could make the difference.

Gary Hooper anytime goalscorer – 11/4 with Betway.

Derby vs Sheffield Wednesday Team News

There are number of concerns for the home team. Will Hughes is suspended for this clash whilst there are doubts over the fitness of Craig Bryson. With George Thorne already on the sidelines, it leaves them a little short in midfield.

Craig Forsyth is another long term absentee whilst James Wilson is also unlikely to be fit enough to be included in the matchday squad.  Nick Blackman has resumed training though.

Kieran Westwood looks unlikely to figure as he recovers from a back injury. Lucas Joao is not quite fit enough after spending two months on the sidelines.

Marco Matias and Joe Wildsmith are still injured.

Derby vs Sheffield Wednesday Head to Head Stats

These sides drew 1-1 last season with Barry Bannan scored for the Owls and Darren Bent on the scoresheet for the hosts.

These two have seen plenty of each other down the years, but Wednesday haven’t won since 2006.

There of the last four meetings have ended all square with two of them ending goalless.

Derby vs Sheffield Wednesday Betting Odds

You can get decent prices on both of these sides with the bookmakers. Derby are priced around 7/5 whilst Wednesday can be backed as big as 9/4 with Betfair. The draw will be popular and is around 2/1.

Matej Vydra unsurprisingly leads the way in the goalscoring market, he is around 5 or 6/1 to score the first goal of the game.
