Russia v Czech Republic Betting Preview
Czech Republic
This is a much sterner test for Czech Republic after they stuck six past Malta on Friday evening. They are limbering up for their opener in Euro 2016 Group D against Spain. It’s not the easiest draw and far from a simple start, so they’ll want to enter the tournament with momentum. There are still plenty of familiar faces in the Czech squad. Petr Cech made his 119th appearance for his nation whilst Tomas Rosicky saw some action too, both are likely to play some part in France. Matej Vydra and Jan Kovarik have already been dropped however.
The Czechs hadn’t been in the best form before their mauling of Malta, but they have a clash with South Korea to look forward to as they ramp up their preparations. They’d scored just two goals in three games in their three previous friendlies. Losses to Scotland and Poland before a Vydra equaliser secured a 1-1 draw with Sweden.
On a positive note, they won their qualifying group ahead of Iceland, Turkey and the Netherlands and it proves reading too much into friendlies is academic. They turn up on the big stage and although faces with tricky opposition, they should compete admirably this summer.
One of the scorers on Friday was striker Tomas Necid and he is likely to lead the line once again. He had spells at PEC Zwolle and Buraspor and looks sharp. He’s replaced Daniel Lafata as first choice striker.
Coach Pavel Vrba is expected to put out his strongest 11 for this match as he uses the friendlies to decide his starting 11 against Spain. Borek Dockal missed out against Malta due to carrying a knock, but he’s likely to find some game time here.
Russia
Russia were dealt a huge blow when Alan Dzagoev was ruled out of the Euros this summer. He is a creative player who will be much missed and has been a key part of CSKA’s title winning season. Their group looks a little easier than the Czechs with England, Wales and Slovakia as opponents and you can get the latest bets in our Euro 2016 Group B betting tips section. The latter beat Germany the other night and England are expected to progress, so it won’t be easy for the Russians.
Leonard Slutsky has named an experienced squad to take to the European Championships in France with a few accusations flying around that he’s picked his favourites including central defender Sergei Ignashevic at centre back. Slutsky also manages CSKA and will know plenty about the current form of these players. There’s a Zenit spine to the team though with Shatov, Kokorin and Dzyuba all likely to see some game time here. Fyodor Smolov has a terrific end to the season for Krasnodar and will be pushing for a start.
This is their first warm up match ahead of the tournament and since Euro 2016 qualifying, they’ve won two and lost one of their three friendlies. Victories over Portugal and Lithuania were sandwiched between a defeat to Croatia. They had a poor start to their qualification campaign under Fabio Capello. The Italian was sacked and results picked up since the appointment of Slutsky. The 23 man squad has been named and the players are competing for a starting berth against England on June 11th – check out our England vs Russia preview page for all the latest betting tips and predictions.
Russia v Czech Republic Predictions
Friendlies are always tough to call, this one could end all square. Both sides have been inconsistent in friendlies and this match in neutral territory could easily finish as a decent workout for both sides. My first Russia v Czech Republic betting tip is for the match to end a draw. It can be backed at 11/5 with 888Sport.

Fyodor Smolov hit form towards the end of the Russian Premier League season and netted 13 times in nine games. He can continue that fine form here. My second Russia v Czech Republic prediction is for Fyodor Smolov to score anytime. He is 5/2 with Bet365.
Russia shipped four goals to France and three goals to Croatia whilst Czech Republic are back in the scoring groove after hitting Malta for six. Both teams have scored scored in three of Czech Republic’s last five games and the same in two of Russia’s last three. The two previous clashes between these sides have finished 4-1 and 3-3. My third betting tip for this interational friendly of Russia v Czech Republic is for Both Teams to Score? Yes. It can be backed at Evens with Bet365.
