Huddersfield remain towards the top of the table and are currently positioned 3rd, but their form doesn’t reflect their lofty position. After remaining unbeaten and flirting with top spot early on in the season, David Wagner’s side haven’t been able to maintain their fine form. They are still picking up points at home, but on their travels, they are struggling and were recently hammered 5-0 by Fulham. That was an embarrassing afternoon for the German coach and his side and they followed it up with a solid performance, drawing 1-1 with Birmingham. Their defence has looked a little stretched recently and they’ll be looking to grab a clean sheet here to restore some confidence. They are hunting for a fourth away win and to banish memories of their crushing in West London, but this is a difficult task against a much improved Cardiff side. This could be a match decided on set pieces and there won’t be much in it. The Bluebirds improved under Warnock and he is hoping to completely steer them clear of danger. They have a point advantage over 3rd bottom Wigan, but worryingly they’ve suffered back to back defeats. Prior to that, the former Sheffield United and Rotherham boss had guided them to 7 points from a possible 9. They were better against Newcastle and gave the leaders a run for their money and that should give them hope here.

Cardiff are in a pretty decent position and have few injury worries ahead of this tie. Junior Hoilett missed out for Canada, but should feature here. Jazz Richards is also back, but may have to settle for a place on the bench.
Joe Lolley will not feature again until the New Year whilst Nakhi Wells and Elias Kachunga should have recovered in time for this. This match might come too soon for Harry Bunn.
