Bristol City v Newcastle predictions for the 3pm kick off from Ashton Gate with the best three football betting tips for the game.
Newcastle got three points at last on Wednesday night with a 4-1 win over Reading, can they make it back to back wins as they visit Bristol City?
Bristol City v Newcastle Preview
Bristol City
It’s been a very good start to the season for Lee Johnson’s side. They’ve more than held their own and won their first two matches of the season. They lost 1-0 to Norwich in midweek, but holding the Canaries to just a single goal is impressive, however they couldn’t find the target.
The players aren’t short of belief and they refuse to give up. Late goals earnt them the first six points of the season against Wigan and Burton. Tammy Abraham’s signing is looking like a masterstroke from the club and he’s struck up an impressive partnership with Jonathon Kodjia.
It’s a difficult period for the Robins as they host Villa here in a week’s time. All three relegated clubs within 10 days isn’t an easy assignment but Johnson believes his side can more than match the expensively assembled squads.
He’s told the players to believe in themselves and each game is a learning curve. There are a number of young players in the side who will improve over time and with another Championship game under their belt. Johnson felt his players more than matched Norwich for long periods of the game and after hitting the woodwork twice, they can consider themselves unlucky not to have taken something away from Carrow Road.
One of the more experienced heads in the side Gary O’Neill has said Bristol City will relish their status as underdogs in this one as they look to cause an upset.
Jonathon Kodjia played in a different role on Tuesday. The goalscorer was deployed out wide to accommodate Lee Tomlin and Tammy Abraham and he used his pace to good effect. Chasing lost causes and hassling and harrying the Norwich defence impressed the travelling support and his manager.
We may see a similar system here.
Newcastle
Newcastle got off the mark for the season on Wednesday night as they secured three points at St James’ Park with an impressive 4-1 victory over Reading.
The Magpies were always favourites to beat Jaap Stam’s side and dominated from the off.
Rafa has taken a while to get his side up to speed in the Championship although they’d lost to two very decent sides, but this was what the crowd expected every week.
Dwight Gayle bagged a double as he made it three for the season. The former Crystal Palace man scored a tremendous free-kick, followed by a tap in to wrap the game up for his side.
Yoan Gouffran was back in the side and put in a wonderful performance to remind the fans of his presence at the club. He claimed two assists on the night.
Considering how listless the Toon were on the opening weekend of the season, their away performances have to pick up, but this could be a tricky one.
A young hungry side such as Bristol City will cause problems for a Newcastle defence who don’t appear to have gelled just yet. A penalty was given away on Wednesday night and they still look a bit shaky when pressed.
More players should arrive at the club with Sebastian Haller the latest name linked.
Bristol City v Newcastle Predictions
Match Prediction
Wednesday night was impressive, but this is away from home and in my opinion against harder opposition. I fancy Newcastle to get something from this, but a single point is realistic.

Both Teams to Score?
Bristol City hit the woodwork twice against Norwich as the Canaries defence held firm. I don’t think the creaky Newcastle backline will stand the resistance. They’ve conceded in all three games so far and the Robins have goals in them.

Anytime Goalscorer Prediction
As the central striker and assisted by Tomlin and Kodjia, Tammy Abraham should be able to continue his fine start to the season. The Chelsea loanee has proved a hit so far and could spread some cheer around Ashton Gate.
