Brighton vs Nottm Forest Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview

Brighton v Nottingham Forest predictions and football betting tips for this week’s Saturday night Championship fixture including a both teams to score bet and anytime goalscorer.

After midweek the cup action, we’re back to the bread and butter of the Championship. Brighton welcome Phillipe Montanier’s Nottingham Forest to the Amex Stadium. It should be an entertaining Friday night fixture and our betting preview includes three selections.

Brighton v Nottingham Forest Preview

Brighton

It took patience on Tuesday night, but eventually Brighton made the breakthrough against Colchester United. John McGreal’s side were hit for four by a much changed Brighton side. Jamie Murphy struck twice but the opener was notched by Sam Baldock and the former MK Dons man is intent on adding more goals to his game this season. He links up well with his fellow frontmen, but getting into double figures is perfectly attainable this season.

Hughton reserved praise for the younger members of Tuesday night’s side with Ben White, Rob Hunt and Sam Adekugbe impressing their boss. Elvis Manu was also back in the side whilst Ollie Norwood continues to settle in at his new club.

Their first league game at the Amex sees Nottingham Forest arriving in town. It’s a tough start for the Seagulls, but they’re yet to concede in 180 minutes of football which given their defensive injury problems is very credible. They kept Derby at bay and even though the Rams missed a number of chances, it could be a very important point come the end of the season.

Hughton may lack numbers at the back, but he has a wealth of options going forward. Kazenga Lua Lua is a livewire but will have to compete with Jiri Skalak, Anthony Knockaert and Jamie Murphy for a place in the Brighton starting line-up against Nottingham Forest. Lua Lua scored the only goal when these two sides met on the opening day of the season last year. Up front, new signing Glenn Murray has Tomer Hemed and Sam Baldock for company.

Connor Goldson is hoping to return for this fixture. Injury has kept the impressive centre back out so far, but he could be drafted back in here. Bruno deputised at the weekend, but he is a right back by trade. Rumours continue about the future of Dale Stephens, but the midfielder remains at the club and his agent tweeted this week saying there are no immediate plans for his departure.

Nottingham Forest

Little was known about how Forest would approach the game on Saturday, but they were positive and attacked with gusto. Unfortunately, their defending was fairly powderpuff. A 4-3 thriller was the final result, but Burton could have nicked something from the game.

The fans at the City Ground were delighted to see Britt Assombalonga back in a Nottingham Forest shirt and he grabbed two goals on his comeback. He will be hoping to give the Brighton defence the run-around once more this season.

It was a much a changed line-up for the midweek cup win over Doncaster. Jamie Ward scored the winner in the 90th minute as they scraped through against League Two opposition.

I believe Montanier is putting together a decent side. He’s combining youth (Burke, Cash, Ivacotti etc) with more experienced faces (Mills, Lansbury, Vaughn) and it could be a very productive 10 months at the City Ground. The defence looks like it might need a few tweaks though. Lam and Mills is a new partnership that will surely improve over time whilst Hildeberto Perreira looked effective going forward, but was found wanting at the back from time to time. Eric Lichaj is in contention to replace the young Portuguese star if Montanier decides to make changes.

Forest were on the wrong end of a 1-0 defence on the opening Friday night of the season last year and they only won one of their four Friday fixtures during the 2015-16 campaign. It’s always a close game when these sides meet but the Brighton vs Nottm Forest betting odds have Brighton as odds on favourites (5/6 with bet365) and Nottm Forest at 4/1. Forest have won just one of the last five and they’ll be looking to change that statistic here.

Brighton v Nottingham Forest Predictions

At the prices, the draw is tempting for my Championship predictions this week, but now that Brighton are up and running with the goals, I fancy them to win here. I think one goal might be the difference. The options on the bench could make the difference with Baldock, Lua Lua, Murphy and Norwood all able to step off the sidelines so my first Brighton vs Nottm Forest prediction is a home win.

Forest’s defence wasn’t up to much, but Britt Assombalonga will make sure the Brighton backline is fully focused for the 90 minutes. If Goldson is back, they will be harder to breach, but I still fancy them to find the net here and that means a bet on both teams to score makes perfect sense, especially given the favourable odds for the punter.

Murray and Temed still appear to be striking up their partnership, so I’m going to back Assombalonga to find the net once more for my anytime goalscorer tip on Brighton vs Nottm Forest this week. The powerful striker is being tracked by Norwich and it’s easy to see why. He’s powerful and should be able to find the net here. If you fancy a bigger odds bet Assombalonga is 7/1 to score first with bet365.

Anytime Goalscorer Britt Assombalonga – 16/5 with 888Sport: BET HERE.
