Both Teams to Score Tips 22nd October

Aston Villa v Fulham

Villa finally showed some signs of passion under new boss Steve Bruce in midweek as a last gasp penalty from Jordan Ayew was enough to claim all three points against Reading. The Royals had battled their way back into it after going behind to Jonathon Kodjia’s goal, but Villa showed their desire and won it with virtually the last kick of the game. There are signs that £14m man Kodjia is finally hitting form and he could find the net again here. There are plenty of goals in this team and they have scored in each and every home game this season. Uncharacteristically failing to find the net against Preston was the final straw for Roberto Di Matteo, but they always look more threatening at Villa Park. Fulham have scored six goals inside a week as they battled back to claim a 2-2 draw with Norwich on Tuesday. Their last away game saw them hit four at Oakwell and they should be able to find the way past a Villa defence which hasn’t kept a clean sheet since the 13th of August.

Norwich v Preston

Norwich were overtaken by Newcastle in midweek at the summit of the table and Alex Neil’s side will be doing everything they can to avoid falling further behind the Magpies. There’s no doubt that have goals in them and they hit another two in midweek, both from the penalty spot. Cameron Jerome is in form and they’ve scored 11 in their last four matches at Carrow Road. They opened the season with back to back clean sheets here, but haven’t managed one since and that’s a worry for the former Hamilton boss. Preston are a side in-form. After their early season struggles, they are unbeaten in five in the league, picking up some decent results, none more eyecatching than a 3-1 win over Huddersfield on Wednesday. Importantly they’ve found their goalscoring touch and they are extremely dangerous from a set piece situation, as they proved at Deepdale earlier this week. The Lilywhites have drawn their last two away matches 2-2.

Gillingham v Charlton

I say it every week – Gillingham cannot defend. They have failed to keep a clean sheet this season and are falling below expectations. It’s something Justin Edinburgh has endeavoured to correct, but so far there has been little improvement. A 1-1 draw with Walsall in midweek continued the trend and they are always handy for a BTTS. This isn’t far to go for Charlton who have improved lately. They have the players to be competitive at the right end of the table and although Nicky Ajose has been a let-down, Ricky Holmes is proving a decent signing. The Addicks also drew 1-1 in midweek, their second consecutive 1-1 on the road and their 4th draw in a row. They’ve found the net in 4/6 away matches this season, but they will seldom come across a defence as generous at Gillinghams. They’ve only kept on clean sheet on the road all season and that give hope to Gills fans. Cody McDonald appears to be back in the groove and they’ve netted in every home game this season.

Blackpool v Doncaster

Blackpool should be higher than 17th with the side they possess. It just hasn’t happened for Gary Bowyer and his men yet and they gave away two sloppy goals against Accrington to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory last weekend. That was very poor from the Tangerines and this is a daunting fixture against in-form Doncaster. Donny are scoring for fun at the moment and are likely to find a way past an unreliable Blackpool back-line. No clean sheet in the last five at Bloomfield Road isn’t great and they will surely find the likes of Andy Williams and James Coppinger too much to handle. On the other hand, Blackpool usually do score. They possess the likes of Jamille Matt, Kyle Vassell and Danny Philliskirk in their side and can mix it up in the forward positions if necessary. They’ve hit 8 in their last 4 home games.
