Aston Villa v Nottingham Forest Preview
Aston Villa
Villa continued to spend big in this transfer window and splashed out £15m on Jonathon Kodjia. The Bristol City striker had a terrific season in his first campaign since moving over from France and he’s been rewarded with a move to the West Midlands.
Kodjia will link up with other summer signing Ross McCormack to make a fearsome front two which will frighten any Championship defence. Particularly Forests.
Perhaps their best bit of business could be the addition of Albert Adomah, who signed from Middlesbrough at the end of August. Very much a bit part player under boss Aitor Karanka, the Barnet-born winger is seeking first team opportunities in the Championship and is likely to get them here.
He can be a match winner on his day and a run in the side and the likes of McCormack, Gestede and Kodjia as possible recipients, he could prove to be a masterstroke of a signing.
Mile Jedinak and James Chester are also likely to get starts here for the hosts as the new signings bed in.
Jack Grealish has also signed a new contract this month and the youngster should be another player who will benefit from an extended run in the side.
Villa didn’t get off to the best of starts as they lost to Sheffield Wednesday and then were humbled at Kennilworth Road, but since then, there’s been significant improvement.
It all came undone before the International Break though when they were beaten 3-1 by Bristol City after taking the lead.
They should be able to bounce back from that defeat here though.
They certainly have the firepower now and should blow teams away this season. They need to iron out the problems which remain at the back though.
Nottingham Forest
Forest have never been far from excitement so far this season under new boss Phillipe Montanier. The Frenchman has overseen to 4-3 wins at home and recent 2-1 and 3-1 wins.
They don’t have any problems scoring goals, but keeping them out is difficult.
Oliver Burke surprisingly left for Germany at the end of last month. Burke was always likely to depart the City Ground, but a move to the Premier League looked on the cards before the appeal of the Bundesliga and RB Leipzig was too much for the youngster.
It leaves a creative void in the side and one which will need filling.
There are several new signings who may get some game time here though. Nicklas Bendtner may be lacking match sharpness, but a 20 minute cameo is not out of the question.
Lica and Mustapha Carayol could also be in line for a start if they can prove their fitness.
However, the biggest question marks remain over striker Britt Assombalonga. The powerful frontman miss the final game before the International Break and faces a late fitness test here. He’s stayed at the club despite being linked with the likes of Norwich. His injury record isn’t great though and Forest will be wrapping him in cotton wool ahead of this one.
Damien Perquis is also looking to shake off an injury. The former Toronto defender scored his first goal for the club recently and it would mean further changes to the back four if he was absent.
Forest’s away form has left a lot to be desired so far and they could struggle at Villa Park. The home side have been impressive in their recruitment and I don’t trust the Forest backline at all.
Aston Villa v Nottingham Forest Betting Predictions
I think it’s a decent price on the home side here to start our Aston Villa vs Nottingham Forest betting tips. They may have slipped up against Bristol City, but that was away from home and they should bounce back here. The recruitment has been good as they’ve splashed the cash. Forest’s away form isn’t great and they could really struggle here. The best odds for Aston Villa to win are 5/6 with Betfred.
Over/Under 2.5 Goals
I’m surprised to the see the Over 2.5 goals chalked up so high here in the betting odds for this match. Villa can score goals, but their defence is far from assured and Forest have been giving away goals left, right and centre so get on over 2.5 goals to be scored which is my next prediction for Villa vs Forest this weekend at odds of 10/11 with William Hill.
Anytime Goalscorer
With three powerful strikers, Roberto Di Matteo will have to choose between them and I think Ross McCormack is likely to get the nod. He’ll enjoy playing against a generous Forest defence and can complete our Aston Villa v Nottm Forest betting tips by landing this anytime goalscorer prediction at odds of 8/5 with Coral.
