Genoa v Fiorentina
We’re kicking things off with two games in Serie A, with the first of which being Genoa’s home tie against Fiorentina. We might only be two games into the season in Italy but the hosts have started like a house on fire after winning their opening two games to take an early place at the top of the table. Furthermore, both of these victories finished with a BTTS outcome and over 3.5 goals which certainly ticks all the boxes ahead of this weekend clash. Although opponents Fiorentina have picked up a win and a defeat since the start of the campaign, the latter was in fact a 2-1 away loss at Juventus and I can’t imagine many more teams will fare much better there this season. Sampdoria v Roma
Our second choice takes us just down the road as Sampdoria take on Roma at the same time of 14:00pm. Similarly, to their neighbours, the hosts have also begun this season with back to back victories, albeit via far less convincing circumstances. Nevertheless, their last 3pts did feature a 2-1 home win over Atalanta, which just so happened to be the same scoreline that featured twice against Sunday’s opponents during the 2015/16 campaign. Roma arrive in town off the back of blowing a 2-0 lead over lowly Cagliari a fortnight ago. Despite having a lot of goals in their side, clean sheets are often few and far between for I Giallorossi and they actually finished last season as the highest placed team in Serie A for BTTS results at 71%. If there’s an early goal in this one, it’s as good as won.
Mainz v Hoffenheim
The penultimate selection is a German affair as Mainz face-off against Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga at 16:30pm. We’re only a game into the season in Germany’s top flight, but both of the sides in question did get off to a BTTS result apiece in their opening games. Looking back on the corresponding matches between the two teams last year and both games finished by scores of 3-1 and 3-2 which certainly sets a few alarm bells ringing ahead of their meeting this Sunday. In addition to this, Hoffenheim ended the 2015/16 campaign with four BTTS results in their final five games and also the third highest strike-rate for BTTS over the course of the season. Based on their results from last year, these two should do their bit this weekend.
Grenada v Eibar
Our anchor leg takes us to La Liga as Grenada take on Eibar at 5:15pm. The hosts were always a good shout in the BTTS market last season and their final statistics at the end of the campaign certainly made for interesting viewing. Grenada actually finished with the highest strike-rate in La Liga for BTTS results at home, whilst only keeping four clean sheets all season long and conceding the third most goals in the division. Visitors Eibar had a decent first half to their 2015/16 campaign but did tail off towards the last few months only winning two of their final 18 games. Nevertheless, they did beat Grenada both home and away last season by scores of 3-1 and 5-1, so with these facts in mind, back this game to round things off.
