Aston Villa v Newcastle betting tips and predictions for the Saturday evening Championship fixture this weekend.
There’s a battle of two relegated sides on Saturday teatime as Aston Villa welcome Newcastle to Villa Park. We’ve got the best three football betting tips for the match.
Aston Villa Team News, Form and Preview
Aston Villa’s season in the Championship hasn’t gone as planned yet. After a fairly predictable shaky first week in which they faced a difficult game against Sheffield Wednesday and a banana skin of a cup tie against Luton, they appeared to be on the right track. But too many draws have cost them and they find themselves in 18th place with 8 points from 8 games. In perfect symmetry, they’ve scored 8 goals and conceded the same amount. I’m sure Villa fans would prefer points to neatness though.
They are tough to beat though with 5 draws from 8 games and they won’t make it easy for their opponents. They’ve certainly tightened up after last season’s defensive horror show. Tommy Elphick has helped matters and provides experience which was urgently required.
Villa have spent big with nearly £30m of additions to their strikeforce and you imagine it won’t take long for them to sweep aside one or two weaker sides in the division. It’s just waiting to all click into place.
New signing Mile Jedinak, purchased as a midfield enforcer suggested this week that Villa will become indestructible and suggested that the ‘sky in the limit’ for his side if they can fire themselves up the table.
They need to stop giving leads away, that’d be a start.
The fans are being patient and realise that the major overhaul is for the good of the club and the wheels will start moving soon.
This will be one of their toughest assignments yet though and with another midweek fixture list on the way, it’s another busy 7 days for the squad.
Jack Grealish is undoubtedly a talent, but has been told to grow up by manager Roberto Di Matteo this week. He is capable of changing a game, but his attitude has always been questions and he could learn a thing or two from the elder statesmen of the dressing room.
RDM has few injuries concerning him ahead of this one.
Newcastle Team News, Form and Preview
Newcastle don’t come away with a lot from Villa Park. Just two wins since 2006 here isn’t a great record coming into this match and the previous two visits have ended in goalless draws. They were also relegated here in 2009.
Newcastle were halted last weekend as they crashed to a 2-0 defeat against Wolves. It was the result that not only ripped up the form book, but also spat it out.
The Toon had previous been electric, beating QPR 6-0 at Loftus Road and should have been full of confidence going into the tie at St James’ Park.
Alas, it wasn’t to be and it’s back to the drawing board for Rafa Benitez. They got their revenge in midweek though with a 2-0 win the EFL Cup, progressing to the 4th round of the competition.
Until last weekend, they hadn’t conceded a goal in 5 games and were looking every inch the title contenders.
Rafa has been chopping and changing his line up on an almost weekly basis and he has a large number of players to keep happy. He will have to decide the best way to combat Villa’s strikeforce. Ciaran Clark is likely to face his former club. He has been talking about Newcastle being ‘a bigger club’ than Villa and you could argue that the defender has done the opposition manager’s team talk for him.
Norwich arrive at St James’ Park on Wednesday night, so Rafa will have one eye on that crucial fixture when he selection his XI for this one. Vurnon Anita is suspended and looks set to be replaced by DeAndre Yedlin.
Aston Villa vs Newcastle Predictions
Villa aren’t easily beaten this season whilst Newcastle are looking to recover from last week’s setback. I think Newcastle have more confidence following their midweek win and their defence has largely impressed since the end of August. They looked good away from home against Derby and they’re worth chancing on the Draw No Bet market for our first Aston Villa vs Newcastle betting tip.

Over/Under 2.5 Goals Tips
Newcastle have a knack of winning 2-0 and 3 of Villa’s last 5 matches have fallen under 2.5 goals. They couldn’t break down a stubborn Ipswich resistance and I think they might struggle for goals again here so my second Championship prediction is low on the goalscoring.
Goals Prediction – Under 2.5 Goals – 13/17 with 888Sport: BET HERE
Anytime Goalscorer Tips
It’s hard to know who is going to be selected for Newcastle, but Yoann Gouffran has impressed of late and he should have done enough to merit a start. He scored a cracker in their last away trip so we’re sticking with him for an anytime goalscorer prediction in Aston Villa vs Newcastle this weekend.
Anytime Goalscorer Prediction – Yoann Gouffran – 23/5 with 888Sport: BET HERE
