Aston Villa vs Chelsea Preview

Amid changes in the boardroom at Villa, Remi Garde left the club this week in the latest twist of what has been a disastrous season for the Villans. They're almost certain to be playing Championship football next season, they're stranded at the bottom of the league on 16 points, 12 behind 17th placed Norwich City, after losing 21 of their 31 games so far and winning just three.

Since Guus Hiddink's arrival at Stamford Bridge Chelsea have recovered from their atrocious start to rise to 10th place in the Premier League table. Their chances of playing in the Champions League next season are pretty much zero, they're ten points behind Manchester City who currently take up fourth spot, but Hiddink has steadied the ship at the Blues ready for a new era next season. They've been knocked out of two cup competitions in recent weeks at the hands of Everton and Paris Saint Germain, but their league form is pretty good, they've not lost since mid-December, a run that's lasted 14 games and that run should continue here.

In the wake of Garde's exit, Eric Black has been appointed acting manager until a permanent boss is found, and his first job is to try and get some pride and fight back into his squad. He could welcome back Adama Traore, Micah Richards and Jack Grealish for this clash, but Libor Kozak is a doubt and Jordan Amavi is out for the season. Guus Hiddink is waiting on the fitness of Kenedy and Eden Hazard is a major doubt for this one. They're definitely without striker Diego Costa who is suspended so it's between Loic Remy and Bertrand Traore who starts up top.

Aston Villa vs Chelsea Predictions

Chelsea have a great recent record against Aston Villa, winning seven of the last eight meetings between the two, and that should continue here. They've won four of their last five away games and against a Villa side that looks like it has given up a victory should be on the cards. A change in manager can revitalise a club but still I think Chelsea will do enough to take all three points. The best odds you'll find for the away win are 4/7 which are too short to peak my interest, so instead my first Aston Villa vs Chelsea prediction is Chelsea to win with a minus 1 handicap.  The best odds for Chelsea -1 are 8/5 which you'll find at Coral.

Loic Remy started in place of the suspended Costa last time out in the draw with West Ham with Bertrand Traore coming on to replace him, this time it could be the other way round. Traore has looked decent when he's played, he's scored two in three appearances and he's my anytime goalscorer tip for Aston Villa vs Chelsea this weekend. Get on Traore anytime with 888sport at 17/10.

With Villa not having scored in their last three, and only scoring in two of their last ten games this should be a pretty comfortable away win. Chelsea can't keep clean sheets at the minute, they've conceded in each of their last six league games, but betting on Villa to score at all is risky in itself. Chelsea to win to nil is only 6/4, so instead I’m opting to go for Chelsea to win both halves, the best odds are with Sportingbet of 3/1.
