Brighton vs Barnsley Betting Preview

Brighton

Brighton were a model of consistency last season, but it’s not quite happened so far this campaign. Chris Hughton’s side have impressed in dispatches, but have tripped up at home to Brentford and been held here by Reading.

There is plenty of talent in the squad and the return of Dale Stephens has helped things tick over in midfield. Anthony Knockaert has proved to be a shrewd addition to the side and the Frenchman is capable of moments of magic, lighting up an ordinary game.

He’s been creating (and finishing off) numerous chances throughout the season, but there has certainly been a lack of cutting edge up front for the Seagulls this season. Glenn Murray started off the season in fine form and Tomer Hemed has added one or two, but the profligacy has been alarming at times.

Brighton will have to be careful not to rely on Knockaert alone. If the Frenchman picks up a knock, they could be In trouble. 11 changes were made for the midweek EFL Cup game against Reading and alterations are imminent for this fixture.

Lewis Dunk, David Stockdale, Dale Stephens and Bruno will all come back in.

They have struggled at the back though with the injury to young Connor Goldson, who was so instrumental last season. He will be out for the foreseeable future and Hughton will have to make do without his first choice centre back pairing.

Kazenga Lua Lua is also sidelined and the winger can bring something different to the side when back to full fitness. Sam Baldock could be restored to the line-up for this match after serving his suspension.

Brighton fans can’t have too many complaints with the club sitting 7th after 8 games, but following the narrow miss last campaign, expectations are heightened and they’ll be expecting the Seagulls to be challenging for the top two once more.

Barnsley

What a season it’s been for Barnsley so far! Riding high in the league and scoring goals for fun following their promotion from League One.

The relatively unknown Paul Heckingbottom has done a superb job since taking over from Lee Johnson and they’ve been able to carry the momentum through to this campaign.

It’ll be interesting to see how they bounce back from a setback after a 2-1 defeat at Oakwell last weekend. Reading undid the Tykes, who went into the game full of confidence.

They still have enough firepower to hurt teams though with pace and power on the wings and skill and craft in the centre of the park.

Up front, Sam Winnall has returned from injury and combined with Adam Armstrong, it’s a lethal strikerforce which has already yielded goals.

Heckingbottom said that Brighton are a very similar team to Barnsley and is looking forward to facing the Seagulls. He says ‘It’ll be a real test’ and they’ll be ‘tough to play against’, but is relishing the encounter.

The boss is missing Aidy White for this game, but James Bree is back in training following a long term injury. Saidy Janko and Sam Morsy could also be given starts if Heckingbottom decides to make changes.

It’s important to have strength in depth this season with the scrapping of loan deals and the boss has praised the business his club conducted in the summer saying they’re able to make the changes if necessary.

Barnsley have been one of the best teams to watch in the league, sitting in 4th, they’ve scored 19 goals so far and conceded 11. They’re entertaining and they go up against one of the best passing sides in the league. This should be an absorbing encounter.

Brighton vs Barnsley Betting Predictions

Brighton remain tough to beat here, despite losing to Brentford at the AMEX. This won’t be easy for Barnsley, but they should give as good as they’ve got. Neither side will want to lose their position in the top seven and will be aiming for all three points, but they might have to settle for one which is where our first Brighton vs Barnsley betting tip lies.
