Derby are desperately short of goals under new boss Nigel Pearson and will be looking to make amends against one of the poorest defences in the league, Blackburn. We’ve got the best three football betting tips for the 3pm kick off.

Derby vs Blackburn Betting Preview

Derby

Liverpool are taking the EFL Cup extremely seriously this season and when Jurgen Klopp announced a strong line-up on Tuesday night, it was always going to be an uphill task for Derby County.

Now that they are out of the competition, at least they can concentrate on climbing the league.

It’s not been the ideal start for Nigel Pearson or the Rams as the goals have completely dried up. They are the lowest scorers in the league by some distance with just 2 goals netted in the opening 8 games. Ikechi Anya’s strike was a relief against Bristol City, but the strikers need to find their shooting boots if Derby are to challenge for the play-offs.

On a positive note, the club have conceded just 7 goals in the opening 8 matches and look relatively solid at the back.

There have been some difficult results to take, such as the 1-0 defeat to Burton and the home defeat to Ipswich. Midfielder Jacob Butterfield is confident that results will improve and the goals will arrive. ‘We know back to back wins will completely change the picture’ says the former Middlesbrough midfielder and they perhaps couldn’t ask for a better fixture.

They face Cardiff in midweek, playing 2 of the bottom 3 is ideal for a side who need to restore confidence and re-discover their mojo.

Every time I write about Derby, I list the amount of firepower available, but it is astonishing that they are struggling for goals.

They’re facing a side who shipped 17 goals in 8 games and if Nigel Pearson’s side can’t find a way past a hapless Rovers backline, there will be serious concerns for Nigel Pearson.

Scott Carson is a doubt for this match as he missed midweek with illness. Johnny Russell and James Wilson have both had recent injuries, but could make a full recovery for this game. Craig Forsyth (one of only two players to score this season) is a long term absentee.

Blackburn

Owen Coyle was visibly delighted last weekend as his side finally got off the mark for the season. The Scot has been under-fire from the fans after seeing his side winless in 7.

Rotherham were the perfect opponent though, as the Millers are conceding goals for fun on the road.

The relief didn’t last long though as Rovers were beaten by Leeds (again) in the EFL Cup during the week with a solitary Chris Wood strike enough to send them out of the competition.

Rovers didn’t create much in that match and they will need to be at their best to find a way past the Derby defence.

They signed Wes Brown this week and the experience of the former Man United centre-half will be vital for the duration of the season. Shane Duffy’s transfer left Blackburn a little short at the back and Brown could be an important presence around the younger squad members.

Elliott Ward and Adam Henley are definitely out whilst Gordon Greer and Scott Wharton are both struggling with injuries, which leaves them woefully short at the back.

Coyle has promised that his side will take the game to Derby as they look to catch them out.

It’s part of an important week for Rovers who travel to Birmingham next weekend, but await the visit of Sheffield Wednesday in midweek. Coyle wants to build momentum going into the next International Break.

This will be difficult for his side as Derby are going to improve at some stage and could take it out on a luckless opponent. With defensive holes in the side, Blackburn will be extremely lucky to keep a clean sheet here.

Anthony Stokes and Danny Graham are both working their way back to fitness and could be available again soon.

Derby vs Blackburn Predictions

I know Derby are lacking goals, but they did find the net against Bristol City and Rovers have had trouble keeping sides out. I fancy Derby to put their goalscoring woes behind them here for my first Derby vs Blackburn betting tip. They’ve so far faced tougher defences such as Ipswich, Aston Villa and Newcastle.

Prediction – Derby to score over 1.5 team goals – 4/5 with Bet365: BET HERE.

Over 2.5 Goals Betting Tips

Blackburn have been very open this season and many of their games have featured three or more goals. I think this one will go the same way so my second Championship prediction is for over 2.5 goals to be scored.

Goals Prediction – Over 2.5 Goals – 19/17 with 888Sport: BET HERE.

Anytime Goalscorer Tips

It’s hard to back any of the Derby strikers with any conviction in our Derby vs Blackburn predictions for a goalscorer, but Ikechi Anya got off the mark last week and he netted a few during his time at Watford.
