Both Teams to Score Tips 24th September.
Sheffield Wednesday vs Nottingham Forest
Both of these sides have been good for goals this season. Wednesday are strong at Hillsborough and have only failed to score once there this season (v Leeds). The Owls were undone late on by Birmingham on Saturday night, but in their last home match, they saw off a plucky Bristol City side 3-2. There’s no doubt that they have goals in the side and Gary Hooper was back on the scoresheet at the weekend. The lack of goals for Fernando Forestieri is perhaps a worry, but there is plenty of firepower from other areas of the field. Forest were beaten easily by Arsenal in the cup in midweek, but they’ve been entertaining in the league of late. Phillipe Montanier’s side have been free-scoring and Apostos Vellios has found his shooting boots. Last weekend they lost 1-2 to Norwich, but prior to that they had drawn 2-2 with Aston Villa. They have struggled to keep sides out this season with some suspect defending, but their goalscoring credentials cannot be questioned.
Brighton vs Barnsley
Brighton were beaten in the cup in midweek and they are quickly turned out again at the AMEX. They’ve been strong here for the last couple of seasons and have been scoring goals. Only Brentford have managed to suss them out here on the South Coast. The Seagulls need to find their shooting boots though and get Glenn Murray, Tomed Hemed and the returning Sam Baldock scoring again. Barnsley have scored 19 goals in 8 games and conceded 11. They’ve been involved in some very high scoring games and this could be another one. Adam Armstrong has looked bright since joining the club on loan and although they lost 1-2 to Reading at the weekend, they’ll be looking to bounce straight back. Adam Hammill and Ryan Kent provide width and they could give Brighton plenty to think about here. They recently hit 4 against Wolves, who subsequently beat Newcastle and they have little fear going forward.
Bristol Rovers vs Port Vale
Not an immediately obvious selection for a weekend BTTS tip, but Bristol Rovers have provided plenty of BTTS winners throughout the season and they were at it again on Tuesday beating Swindon 1-2 at the County Ground. Rovers have scored and conceded in every game this season and it should continue here. They are gradually improving with a number of draws followed by that crucial win away from home. Securing the services of Matty Taylor was vitally important for the club and he could find the net again here. Port Vale have landed BTTS in 4 of the last 5 and have shown precision in front of goal. They’re traditionally stronger at home, but there’s no reason why they shouldn’t get on the scoresheet here. They haven’t kept a clean sheet in the last three and have scored in each of the last five.
Notts County vs Leyton Orient
Notts County have been involved in some high scoring games of late including their 3-2 win over Cheltenham last weekend. Jon Stead and Jonathon Forte are quite the potent strikeforce and back one of them to get on the scoresheet here. They face an inconsistent Leyton Orient, who cannot seem to put any kind of run together. They lost to Yeovil last weekend and will be looking to bounce back here. They aren’t short of firepower and have netted 7 of their 11 goals this season on the road. They should find a way past a Notts County defence which hasn’t kept a clean sheet this season. Orient have kept just a single clean sheet themselves this season and don’t be surprised to see some goals and defensive errors in this one.
