Both Teams to Score Tips

Wigan v Blackburn

A Lancashire derby is on the cards here as both sides look to bounce back from opening day defeats. It’s not been the start to the season that Gary Caldwell and his Wigan side had hoped for. Losing 2-1 at Bristol City wasn’t ideal, but the late collapse will be worrying. That was followed by being dumped out of the cup by League One Oldham. Their first home game of the season should offer some positivity and there’s no doubt that there are goals in the side. Will Grigg scored in midweek, whilst the running of Yanic Wildschut should terrify the Blackburn defence on Saturday afternoon. Blackburn have been amongst the goals so far this season with a 1-4 loss to Norwich on the opening day of the season before a convincing win at Mansfield on Tuesday night. Anthony Stokes seems to have taken to life in the Championship, but Owen Coyle’s sides traditionally struggle to defend and I’m sure they will come undone at the other end too.

Sheffield United v Rochdale

It’s not been an ideal start to the campaign for Sheffield United either with an opening day loss to Bolton following by an extra time defeat to Crewe in the ELF Cup. Wilder can take comfort in the fact that one of his summer signings Leon Clarke found the net on Tuesday and there is plenty of firepower in that side. I saw Rochdale’s game on Saturday and their defending left a lot to be desired. Josh Lillis’ error gifted Peterborough a winner in a 3-2 defeat for Dale. They were much improved in the cup with a 3-1 win over Chesterfield, but I still think they are liable to concede here and land the next leg of our BTTS tip. They have been pretty handy at the other end with five goals in two games and two strikes apiece for Andy Cannon and Ian Henderson. This one should be fairly entertaining.

Barnet v Accrington

John Coleman’s side kick-started their season with a 3-2 win over Doncaster before going through on penalties against a tough Bradford side. Accrington are always good for a goal or two and they play entertaining football. Barnet are also good for a goal particularly at home. Their final match here last season ended 3-4 and these two have a history of producing cracking contests. The last few results have been 2-2, 1-2, 3-2, 1-1 and 3-0. Just one of the last five matches failed to produce BTTS. Barnet have signed the lively Jean Louis Akpa-Akpro who specialises in coming off the bench and scoring late goals and with John Akinde and Alex Nicholls in the side, I have no doubt that Martin Allen’s side will get at least a goal here.

Leyton Orient v Newport

Warren Feeney said he was impressed with the spirit and endeavour in his side. He won’t be impressed with two consecutive 3-2 losses to kick off the season though. After a last minute strike from Mansfield snatched a point away from the Welsh outfit, they blew a two goal lead at home to League One MK Dons. Heartbreak for the Exiles, but they have a chance to put it right here. They seem to struggle to hold a lead, which is good news for the BTTS betting tip here. Leyton Orient scored twice against Fulham in midweek and were held to a 1-1 draw on the opening day of the season. They have firepower a-plenty even if Jay Simpson is still suffering the effects of a flu bug. Paul McCallum staked his claim for a place in the side in midweek and there should be goals at Brisbane Road.
