Charlton vs Burnley Betting Tips and Predictions

Charlton vs Burnley predictions and football betting tips for this weekend’s Championship fixture including team news and an anytime goalscorer tip.

Burnley are up, they can look forward to life in the Premier League next season and they face Charlton at the Valley as both sides play their last game in the Championship. We’ve got the best football tips for the 12:30pm kick off.

Charlton vs Burnley Preview

Charlton

There is still plenty of unrest at the Valley and expect more protests against the owners this weekend as Burnley arrive looking to cement their place as Champions. It’s been a torrid season for Charlton and Jose Riga couldn’t make lightning strike twice and keep them in the Championship again. The Belgian looks like he’ll be off over the summer and the nomadic boss can hold his head high after overseeing a noticeable improvement in the Addicks performances.

The much-maligned Duchatelet has said he is not actively looking to sell this summer despite the threats from the fans. He isn’t always present at the games, but will have seen images of protesting fans and been told tales of the venom around South London. Fans groups have met the directors and been told that the chairman is aware of the discontent amongst supporters who have seen their club go from the Premier League to League One. Charlton are likely to lay on extra security for this particular match as they don’t wish to get their final Championship game abandoned – similar to Blackpool v Huddersfield last season.

Charlton did get a victory last week, albeit a surprise one at in-form Leeds. It was their first victory in six games and they played some decent stuff throughout. They’ve only won five times here all season although twice in the last four matches. Jose Riga once again tightened up the side and utilised individual pace going forward. Callum Harriot is a pacey player who has been brought back into the side and there’s always been talent in the boots of Johann Berg-Gudmondsson. Ademola Lookman is a player who could net the club a large fee in the future if he develops as expected.

It remains to be seen who will be in charge of the club in League One next season, but it won’t be an easy task. Wigan have made returning to the Championship at the first time of asking look easy, but they are a stable club, Charlton are far from that at the moment.

Burnley

On the opposite end of the scale, it’s stability which has helped Burnley back to the Premier League. On and off the pitch, they’ve been a model of consistency and any side who goes half a season unbeaten is always going to end up promoted. They got the job done in typical Burnley fashion with a 1-0 victory over QPR. Sam Vokes was the goalscorer and it’s pleasing to see the Welshman net the winner after an injury cut his Premier League season short. Sean Dyche is not the sort of man to let his side sit on their laurels. He won’t just accept promotion; he’ll demand they win the title. Three points here would guarantee that and I think they can clinch it at the Valley.

It’s 10 victories on the road this season for Burnley with just three away defeats. They have been solid and tough to break down. Charlton found Brighton a tough nut to crack here recently and facing Burnley won’t be any easier.

Many fans are suggesting that Burnley can do a Leicester and have already placed outrageous bets on them winning the title. I don’t think they’ll achieve that, but Dyche will set them up to survive in the top flight. If he can keep the Vokes and Gray partnership fit, they will trouble many Premier League defences. At the back, Michael Keane has had a sensational season and of course, Joey Barton is no stranger to the top tier. Every single player deserves praise as each of them has played their part in a tremendous campaign.

They can end in style here and with the pressure off, they can put a few past a side who rarely keep clean sheets. Charlton are the worst home side in the division and Dyche and co will see this as a chance of finishing with a flourish.

Charlton vs Burnley Team News

  • Jordan Cousins missed the win against Leeds with an injury, but he should return here.
  • Patrick Bauer and Reza Gnoochannejihad will both miss out here.
  • It could be the last game for several players with the likes of Igor Vetokele likely to be playing their last game in a Charlton shirt.
  • Stephen Henderson and Chris Solly have been out of favour recently.

  • Team News is always short for Burnley, with Dyche largely sticking to the same 11 each week. Dean Marney is back from his injury though and could replace David Jones for this trip to London.

Charlton vs Burnley Predictions

I think Burnley will get the job done here. Charlton conceded three to Brighton recently and with the unrest around the stadium, I fancy the Clarets to win this easily. My first Charlton vs Burnley betting tip is Burnley -1 on the Handicap market.

BURNLEY TO WIN (-1 HANDICAP) – 8/11 with Bet Victor.

A few goals are likely here. Apart from the nervy 1-0 derby win over Preston, the previous three away games have all finished with three or more goals. Two of the last three home games for the Addicks have also gone the same way. My second football betting tip for Charlton vs Burnley is for Over 2.5 goals in the match.

OVER 2.5 GOALS – 4/6 with Betfair.

Andre Gray appears to be getting shorter each week on the anytime goalscorer market. Scott Arfield scored against Charlton when they lost 4-0 at Turf Moor earlier in the season. I fancy him to do it again. My third Charlton v Burnley prediction is for Scott Arfield to score anytime.

ARFIELD TO SCORE ANYTIME – 11/4 with Betfred.
