Burnley vs QPR Preview

Burnley

What can we say about Burnley that hasn’t already been mentioned this season? They are on the brink of the Premier League and looking to nail down one of those coveted top two spots. Middlesbrough could only draw on Friday night and by the time Burnley kick off, Brighton will also have finished their match against Derby. Burnley have gone 21 games unbeaten and could make it half a season without losing by the next weekend. They end the season at already relegated Charlton and will be fancied to take all three points. They have the easiest run-in with Brighton making the long journey to Teesside next Saturday.

Joey Barton have been influential in the heart of the midfield whilst Jason Shackell and Michael Keane have been solid at the back. They have conceded just 35 goals all season and are very hard to score past. Sean Dyche has kept the strong spine of the team which got them promoted a couple of years back and it appears as though it’s paying dividends. He’s urged his side to maintain focus during their run-in. Clarets fans could be forgiven for celebrating on Friday night when David Davis struck to level matters at St Andrews. But the job isn’t done yet.

It’s a crucial period for the club as they look to get the job finished. Before Friday night, all three contenders were tied on 87 points and it couldn’t be any closer. They haven’t bumped into QPR often, but they were held to a goalless draw when they met in December. Last time the R’s visited East Lancashire, they lost 2-0 back in 2013.

The clarets have got to their elevated position through hard work and grit and they embody the spirit of their manager. A number of times this season, they have taken the lead early on and simply fended off the advances of the opposition. On the other hand, they’ve rescued games with late drama fairly recently against Middlesbrough and Brighton. The players are playing for one another and it’s clear the whole group are determined to finish the job they’ve started.

QPR

QPR have nothing to play for, but they are likely to follow the example set by Birmingham on Friday night. The Blues could have simply rolled over and said ‘after you…’ to Middlesbrough, but they fought and caused them real problems. Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has urged his players to go out and express themselves in their final away game of the season. He is likely to field a couple of younger players as he looks towards next season.

Their form on the road isn’t great though and they struggle away from Loftus Road. No victory in eight away games is poor at this level and it would be quite an occasion to end that run. They do have the players to hurt teams as they’ve displayed at home and they’ll be much better once JFH has had his chance to put his stamp on the club this summer. They can look forward to West London derbies with Brentford and Fulham again next season. The atmosphere will be terrific at Turf Moor on Bank Holiday Monday and JFH believes it will help his players and despite that ropey away form, they will be determined to make it difficult for Burnley.

Team News

Dean Marney has only recently returned from an injury, but was forced off against Preston last week. He will have a late fitness test ahead of this. Dave Jones is able to deputise for him. Sean Dyche likes to stick with the same team throughout the season with Andre Gray and Sam Vokes his preferred front two.

Matt Ingram looks set to remain in goal after impressing recently. Alex Smithies will have to make do with a place on the bench. Jamie Mackie is definitely out for this. Several experienced players are out of contract this summer and JFH may decide to rest the likes of Karl Henry and Clint Hill for this one.

Burnley vs QPR Predictions

Burnley are unbackable at the price, so it’s best to look at a different market for today’s football tips. The Clarets often get off to fast starts and it wouldn’t be a surprise if they were winning at HT. My first Burnley v QPR prediction is for Burnley/Burnley on the HT/FT market.

BURNLEY HT/BURNLEY FT – 19/20 with Coral.

QPR average less than a goal a game away from home and it’s hard to see them scoring past defensively sound Burnley. My second Burnley v QPR betting tip is for Both Teams to Score? No.

BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE NO – 4/6 with Paddy Power.

Andre Gray leads the anytime goalscorer market once more, which is no surprise. At a larger price though, I’d prefer to take Scott Arfield for my last tip. He’s netted eight times this season, six of them have been here at Turf Moor. My third Championship prediction for Burnley v QPR is for Scott Arfield to score anytime.

ARFIELD TO SCORE ANYTIME – 31/10 with 888Sport.
