Over 2.5 Goals Accumulator Tips
Sheffield Wednesday v Charlton
Sheffield Wednesday got back to scoring ways last weekend by putting three past Nottingham Forest and ending Dougie Freedman’s tenure at the club at the same time. 18 of their 37 matches have featured three or more goals this season and they are one of the highest scorers in the league. Yes, the goals have dried up a little of late, but they were hindered by back-to-back suspensions of Fernando Forestieri and difficult games against the likes of Hull and Brighton. Charlton have improved and are desperate for points in their battle against the drop. They did recently concede four goals against Reading though – the Royals have a modest goal total for the season. 21 of their 37 matches have gone over 2.5 goals and 12 of those have been away from home.
Bristol City v Bolton
It’s always difficult to work out how a side is going to react to a managerial sacking, but Neil Lennon left Bolton this week and the Trotters are still scrapping for their lives at the bottom. League One has looked nailed on for a while, but they’ve been scoring a few goals recently. They have lost Liam Feeney to Ipswich this week, but I think they have enough about them to get on the scoresheet here. Four of Bristol City’s last five games have gone over 2.5 and under Lee Johnson they have significantly improved. Bolton recently conceded three to Brighton and twice to Leeds and have proved all season that they cannot defend. City hit two goals past relegation threatened Fulham on Saturday and with the help of loan recruit Lee Tomlin, they can notch a couple more here.
Millwall v Sheffield United
There’s still the outside chance of a play-off spot for Sheffield United whilst Millwall are entrenched inside the top six. Both of these sides have been scoring goals recently and I fancy this one to go overs. The Blades hit four past Oldham last weekend. The Latics has been fairly solid, so perhaps Nigel Adkin’s side are hitting top gear at just the right time. Millwall have Lee Gregory and Steve Morison scoring week in, week out for them and 21 of their 36 games have gone overs this season. They’ve scored nine in the last five whilst Sheffield United have notched six in just the last two games. Millwall hit three past lowly Blackpool here last time, but it could have been so many more. They always look a threat and the visitors haven’t always been the best at the back.
Southend v Gillingham
This is the closest thing that Gillingham probably have to a derby and there’s still a bit of distance between the two. In terms of performance this season, they’ve both been fairly inconsistent. Gillingham have been a fairly reliable source of goals this season – both scoring and conceding. Three quarters of their matches this season have gone over 2.5 and that includes four of their last five. Southend sit perfectly in the middle with 18 games going overs, 18 going unders. They have a chance of a play-off spot and are a solid proposition at home. They’ve scored 24 goals here this season and it’s unlikely that Gillingham will be coming away with a clean sheet. The Gills put three past lowly Crewe at the weekend and seemingly have found their goalscoring touch after just dropping off the pace recently.
Barnet v Oxford
And finally, a selection from League Two which comes from the Hive. Oxford were victorious in midweek and beat Dagenham by four goal to nil. Away from home, they’ve been brilliant all season and they’ve 1-2, 2-4 and 1-4 in three of their last four on the road. The other match finished 2-2. They have plenty of firepower and they tend to score more away from the pressure of the Kassam. Barnet are an inconsistent team, but have enough spirit about them to give Oxford a hard time. They hit three away at Newport recently but were comprehensively beaten by Hartlepool here. They’ve scored 54% of their goals here in front of their own fans. Whilst they may struggle to keep Oxford out, they will certainly give as good as they’ve got and ask questions of their visitor’s backline.
